total lack of interest/knowledge on the main topic.

Anyway, everyone knows christians beat their parents, hindus beat their children, muslims beat their wives, and athiests like to torture animals.

its as simple as that.

i was tryin to make a point but i reckon it got lost in all the sarcasm. i do feel quite strongly about sexual harassment, but to make it a religious or demographic issue i find ridiculous.

I do not think that looking at it from a demographic perspective is ridiculous. In fact the solution will evolve only when we know where such behavior originates from.Understanding the cultural and socio-economic roots of this issue is what will enable us to curtail eveteasing.

Then may b u cld have givena different title o the topic

the current title makes it more contraversial than it is...

I believe the topic title is still relevant because I think that a large part of human responses are determined by cultural and socio-economic factors which have very significant correlations with religion. Notice I said "correlations with" and not "causations by". Religion is not what causes such mind-sets, its the demographic traits that accompany religion.

To provide an analogy, black people in the United States are not any more of criminals than white people are. But the probability is higher that a criminal is black is higher than the probability that he/she is white. But it is not race that causes you to be a criminal, it is the socio-economic status that often accompanies being black, that causes such behavior. And these socio-economic conditions are a sad result of history, they are not the result of conscious choices by African-Americans. Similarly with Muslims and Hindus in Hyderabad.

The behaviour originates from individuals, not groups or religions. An _ is an _, whether he's a muslim _, a christian _, etc. there will always be _.

statistics aren't going to help much, we're not trying to sell car insurance here. so what if we manage to prove somehow that muslim men are more likely to harass women? what now? if you're saying that it's an upbringing thing then i agree with you, but upbringing is an individual thing, not a religious one. all i am saying is, why make this a religious issue?

Left handed men are more likely to be serial killers, did you know that? what can we do with this information? not a goddamn thing.

I can respond to your question where you ask what we would do with a piece of information like "Muslim men are more likely to evetease than Hindu men" but it would be rather time-consuming. I can think of several good uses for that info but the initial point of the discussion was to establish whether or not that statement is in fact true, and I will restrict myself to that. It is of course an upbrinigng thing, and I'm saying upbringing may have a positive correlation with religion (however tiny the correlation might be).

Do you really think you can establish whether that's true by posting a thread on fullhyd.com? to establish that would take at least a year of information gathering from various sources, in a subtle way (i'll get to that in a moment), and another while processing it.

then's when your real trouble begins. what do you do with the info? maybe there are useful things we can do, such as focus education at a small group of people more likely to commit an offence. However this requires a large amount of tact, or you end up having a situation like the one in the US you mentioned earlier. What has happened now that white people "know" that blacks are more likely to commit crimes? They're terrified, and blacks have an even harder time of it. Hard to protest your innocence when the jury of your peers (of all races) have been fed this little factoid by the press for years.

Presentation of these statistics is extremely important, and if you make a mess of that then it's far more damaging that not bothering in the first place.

Sexual harassment is a large problem, obviously, but tensions between religious groups in a region is a larger one, with much more damaging consequences.

anyway, i do see your point and your intentions are no doubt good, but if it's a scientific study, then a public discussion board is not the place for it, and if its not a scientific study then it's only going to do more harm than good. good points well argued though, and you kept your head with me even though im in a shitty mood and acting the _. so welcome to the board! good to have ya here.

Well thank you Mark for indulging my curiosity. I do not claim that a discussion board is in anyway scientific, neither do I intend to cause more hatred between religions, it was a matter of simply wondering if my anecdotal evidence on this issue matched with other ppl's evidence. I had an argument with someone over dinner today, that's why I started this thread.

Hyd has more muslims than Warangal. No surprise if in Hyd, more muslims tease eves, and hindus in Warangal.

Well ...its is very true that eve teasing in hyderabad is unbearable.....but i think its unfair to say that muslim guys are more likely to be eve teasers.......like kavitha said majority of the population in hyd is muslim.....so its no surprise that u were teased by em......its really not the religion its the mentality of these guys who think it is a very masculine thing to humiliate a poor helpless girl.....its the way a boy is brought up.....not the religion
