My hyderabad!

What do you guys think about the change in the attitude of hyderabadis with the changing scenario of tech invasion and a transformation from a reserved, friendly and laid back little city in the middle of the plateau to that of a techmaniac, over invaded, fast paced and material metropolitan?

I used to live in Hyd about 18 years ago. From the past 15 years, I have been visitng Hyd every year.

So, you can say that Hyd has changed before my eyes, as those who live in Hyd might not have noticed the change.

1. People have gotten a lot more rash on the road.

2. Too many rich adolescents who don't know what they are dong.

3. The andaaz of Hydes is slowly going away because the speed of life is increasing.

4. They still love non-veg food.

5. They are still perfectionists. Jahaan ki cheez hai waheen pe rakho. Aankh band karke bhi mil jana chahiye.

i do believe the pace has increased. but this is boud to happen as the development takes place. we cant have the cake and eat it too!

but the real hydi attitude can never die.

several ppl. new to this place have found it to b far more laid back than say Pune.

And I dont believe the city will become a 100% fast and stressed out one like mumbai...delhi. I believe the ppl. coming here will change from being stressed out to being relaxed 8)

a hyderabadi who has lived here all his life cannot change so easily. he or she wud still be the laid back "take-it-easy" types.

for people from other places, esp metros, hydbad wud initially be a culture shock and then a pleasant place for a relaxed lifestyle.

a hyderabadi might feel that his beloved city might be losing its soul slowly and becoming faster, but not so for the new comer....they may still find enough instances of our laidback lifestyle to either appreciate or be frustrated!

positive changes i noticed over last 6 years are:

1) girls are getting bolder n better

2) more places to hang out

3) accessibility to latest trends

4) more show of wealth

5) more job opportunities

6) more options to eat out (various cusines etc)

some negative changes i noticed:

1) more pollution

2) heavier traffic

3) easier morals

4) new outsiders changing the lifestyle of hyderabadis (less laidback etc)

there will be a time in abt 10 years, or lesser, when hyderabad wud become another clone of bombay or delhi as far as people and lifestyle are concerned. this is unavoidable. just enjoy the good times while it lasts and dont crib. laaaaaaait!

Pata nahi bhai.

Maybe good for the economy, but Middle class walon ki kamar toot jati hai, esp those just have to keep up with the junta (for whatever reasons).

Aukaad pata rehti hai, but sometimes, you are forced to keep up. Hyde society is very demanding. Which is why I took offense toshowing off of wealth in the first place.

Alright, lemme put it this way....Lets assume that I have 10 million. In the old hyd, I would have invested it in real estate without the knowledge of my neighbours or saved it in bank as hard cash (earns interest) or jewellery (no interest). 90% of the people used to do this resulting in stagnation of money... bank accounts were full but since tte money is not in circulation there was no real development. Also, money in bank doesnt help improve my standard of living.

In the new hyderabad I would spend that 10 million... buy a fancy car, a big bungalow or do something else so that the money is in circulation. I donot care two hoots about what my neighbour is doing. If he tries to keep up with me, well and good.

I think this is what CAd meant when he said show off of wealth. If you notice, even the banks encourage this show off by lowering the interest rates on savings.

i got CADs point when he said it. money kept in circulation is good for the local aswell as natl. economy.

but spending it on things that u hardly use is not a good sign. thats not what u earn money for.

i meant the "show off" part as what Mayavi said. to show off u need to spend more, which is good for the economy. moreover, if peolpe show off wealth, even the city looks prosperous and happy, instead of dull n boring.

the rich ppl. can afford to. we were talking abt. the majority ppl. who are middle class. if they start thinking abt showing off then they r doomed.

i think the city will look prosperous when ppl pay taxes and the MCH uses it keep the city clean and green

there is a positive side to this...the middle class will be filled with an ambition to earn more so that they can show off, which again means improvement in life style as well as economy. this is what the RBI has in mind when fiscal policies are framed. few are interested in a low paying govt job anymore (not counting the high bribe earners) and many prefer to be self employed these days. self employment means u give jobs to others and u can survive as long as ppl are willing to spend.
new avenues of employment other than the BE-MBBS-CA/ICWA-MBA route are opening up and survival of these too depend on ppl spending their cash.
if u take a macro and long term view at the economy, this will take us to prosperity. the positives out weigh the negatives.

the clean n green part has been happening in hydbad since last 6 years only: ever since we discovered our spending power.

thats what capitalism is all about. i dont doubt its ability to lift the standard of living.

but we know whats the condition of ppl. america. even after having so much money...spending so much on luxuries....hardly 10% of the ppl. are happy. isnt that the reason they forward to india soem spiritual healing?

when we talk abt ppl. in hyd. being not stressed out its becoz they are happy with what they have (theers nothing wrong in asking for more....)

Do you know how hollow Hyd's economy is? All supported because Hyd was a rich princely state at one time. Then there are the thousands of people who work their arses off in the Midlle East. They think that their gharwale are taKing good care of their hard-earned money. Lekin the gharwale are busy throwing away their money at cars, stereo systems, Fat tres, chandeliers. What if tomorrow everyone come back to Hyd? What will happen to the employment scene? Sare dikhawa karne wale log bheek mangne ke layak bhi nahi rahenge. That is because they are not rich, they are just splurging hard-earned money of their relatives. Which is why I am concerned about the middle-class people.

Ameer log apni kamai ka kuchh hissa qarch karte hain. Middie people ko saara paisa udana padta hai.

Paisa qarch to ho raha hai, but on what? Imported goods! Will they improve indian economy? I dont know...
