Do you know what you really are?

by Alexis » Tue Nov 23, 2004 11:58 am

My sister (Aqua) and I were having a conversation with someone at college about races and people and how these days we can never tell their ethnic background. This whole thing came up because this lady wondered 'what' we were. Since we dont really look Indian, supposedly.

It could be that we dont look very Indian because of our ancestors. We have ancestors of German, Afghani, and Oriental descent.

None of us are a 100% anything. We're all a mix of something.

So do you know your roots? Do you have ancestors that were other than Indian? Do tell.

AFAIK i am an Indian.
People are crazy, at times are strange. I am locked-in tight, I am out of range.
I used to care, but things have changed.

my lineage is purely Indian 8) ...that too largely south indian...

i say 'largely' coz some elders say that there is a north indian gene in our bloodline in my mom's side....popular family legend suggests an ancestor married a north indian girl while working for some king over there.....no one knows how long ago that was....:)

Well I know my great-great-great grandparents were Indian, but beyond that we are aware of some other races marrying into our family and becoming part of it.

What Id really like to do this winter (during my vacation------after my Washington DC trip) is to prepare a geneology chart. Hopefully trace back atleast 7-8 generations.
Is that a pistol in your pocket, or are you pleased to meet me?

I for sure do not know what I really am and I don't think it will be too easy for me to trace back. Although, sometimes I do wish I could. All I know is that my parents are Indian and so were my grand parents. :?

Yeah, but the 'new relatives' wouldnt really still be alive since youre discovering the ones in the past. So its cant be that scary.

Or it could. Depends on who you discover you are related to!

Well my paternal grand-dad and grand-mum both are from Amritsar. However my maternal great-grand-father was a very big land-lord. Although most of that property has been left on the other side of the border so it'll be really confusing for me to trace my ancestory.
Things are supposed to happen the way they happen. And the reason they happen the way the happen is because you try to make them happen in a certain way and may or may not be succesful.
