Actually, Nawab Rai was his real name and not a psuedonym. He is one of my favourite writers and can be called the baap of Hindi Literature.

Enough hints there I suppose.

i am pretty sure is nt his real name, well... his surname is real though.

His real name was Nawab Dhanpat Rai. I heard DD has commisioned a 10 part miniseries on his short stories. I'm looking forwards to that.

An evil king has 1000 bottles of wine. A neighboring queen plots to kill the bad king, and sends a servant to poison the wine. The king's guards catch the servant after he has only poisoned one bottle. The guards don't know which bottle was poisoned, but they do know that the poison is so potent that even if it was diluted 1,000,000 times, it would still be fatal. Furthermore, the effects of the poison take one month to surface. The king decides he will get some of his prisoners in his vast dungeons to drink the wine. Rather than using 1000 prisoners each assigned to a particular bottle, this king knows that he needs to murder no more than 10 prisoners to figure out what bottle is poisoned, and will still be able to drink the rest of the wine in 5 weeks time. How does he pull this off?

Okaay let me take a guess:He takes 1000 prisoners.Asks them to drink from 10 bottles each then he records the drinks they are taking then after a month he just compares the records of each of the prisoners who are dead and then drinks happily....... :? :? :? :?

I think this is the answer but it cant be that simple... :? :?

After five weeks he knows which one bottle was poisoned. So this is not the solution.

If he does that,he shall be left with no wine to drink & it says that the king needs the wine and he 's able to finish it in 5 weeks.

I'm thinking that 5 weeks is Jus' over a month,so in between the month and the 5th week,he knows which one is the poisoned bottle. How? Beats me!!!

Rather than using 1000 prisoners each assigned to a particular bottle, this king knows that he needs to murder no more than 10 prisoners to figure out what bottle is poisoned, and will still be able to drink the rest of the wine in 5 weeks time

So assigning each bottle to a prisoner is ruled out.And also only 10 prisoners are made the scapegoats.

Assuming that the poison takes Exactly a month to have effect, each of the ten prisoners is made to sample 100 bottles of wine but at a definite time interval between each sampling.and the process is recorded. After a month and some days, dpending on which prisoner died and at what time, the poisoned bottle can be known.
