Its actually BS. Pink is considered 'gay' primarily by Americans. The other countries (especially Asian countries) try to ape Americans and their ideas.
In Europe, many shops sell pink and purple shirts exclusively for (straight) men. In France, they have the same handkerchiefs for men and women... there are a lot of other things like this which make you wonder whether French men are gay or effiminate. But its just their culture and way of life. Pink is very much accepted there by straight guys.
Back in India, many of my friends used to wear light pink shirts on occasions. When they arrived in the US, they learnt that only gays wear pink in the US, so they had to throw away their Arrow and Van Heusen pink shirts
Its okay to wear pink in Hyderabad, who cares? Even if you wear pink in the US (and you're a straight guy) nobody will really stare at you (except interested horny gays)
