Veer-Zaara - go to the second half directly

by vivek » Sat Nov 13, 2004 6:18 pm

Just watched the lastest Shah Rukh magun opus Veer - Zaara. A typical Yash

Chopra - Shah Rukh film containing all the compulsory ingredients that made

Shah Rukh's career. A song routine where for most part of the song he stands with

arms spread out, head inclined at 45 degrees and when the director says ‘action,’

the fan is swtiched on so that his hair flows, just the right amount. He smiles. That

Classic DDLJ look, which Shah Rukh has still not lost. Apart from this one

little aspect the film is different.

Veer Zaara was intended to be another tale of eternal love, where an unrealistically

Short time between the love birds leaves a hang-over of 22 years until a Pakistani

lawyer is hell bent on getting the love boy ( now old man) released.

Squadron Leader Veer Pratap singh falls for Zaara Haiyat Khan for no special

reason that a conventional available man with his senses intact and has room

for infatuation. Suprisingly, he gets to meet here again and where he falls for

her even more and now he decides to propose. And propose he does awaiting the

obvious twist, that would help the movie run another 2 hours.

The movie runs and runs till you realize its intermission time. No special

ground has been broken, expect that the flash back that is being narrated by

Shah Rukh ( as prisoner # 786) to Saamiya siidiqui ( Rani Mukherjee) has to touch its emotional peak, and Rani Mukherjee has to shed another 20 ltrs of glycerin.

Come second half and the movie develops a good story worthy enough to narrate. This is the film, the first half is rather redundant. The back ground score is very effective and dialogues are apt. Though, we won’t feel the deep love between Veer and Zaara, the attempt to make the audience empathize with the love lost couple is significant. Shah rukh did his job and so did preity Zinta. Others did not really get any chance to perform. The movie reaches a beautiful climax with Shah Rukh reading out a poem painting his thoughts of Pakistan and his familiarity with the place, the weather, the sun rise and sun set. This is the best scene in the entire film. The final showdown with the song ‘Tere Liye..” in the back drop is fantastic.

You won’t find all the songs in the CD in the movie, two songs have been specially recorded for the album.

On the whole the movie is worth watching for the dialogues and music. There are some short comings too, but what the heck, it’s a Shah Rukh film!

Er.. Shahrukh, John, Dino ...... all crap. Actors need to ACT. Looking sexy is optional. Aamir is in!

I completely agree! SRK was in, and now he is out. But Abraham is in now!

SRK acts the same way in every movie. A different character/role means different traits and mannerism......but hes the same, always!

So yes, in that sense Amir is the best.

But John is the hottest.

Again, why are we wasting our time, and internet bandwidth and diskspace on SRK?

So? What if he is the 'King' Khan? I have more respect for the King of Pop, despite his paedophilia, than I will even have for SRK.

I was never an MJ fan, but I do have tremendous respect for the man. Even though I do not call 'pop' a genre of music, I still think that to be the largest selling artist of all time, it just takes something special. He holds the record for the most number of copies sold for an album - Thriller. In fact, the second most number of copies sold was for Bad, another MJ album. That is not something that even groups like The Beatles or solo artists like Elvis Presley could manage.

I didn't know who Hritik Roshan was till one of my American friends asked me if I knew about the gay Indian actor Hritik Roshan :P. I did not realise that Hritik Roshan was was the same joker who acted in that silly movie (I was forced to see it on plane) where his NZ clone pops up with a perfect Indian accent after living all his life in NZ!! Later, I saw a bit of the movie again, to explain to my friend what was going on, resigned, and then told him that maybe Hritik Roshan is a secret gay :P

I forgot the name of second movie of his which I tried to watch. In that one, he moves to another country, communicates with his two chicks via email (with iPods.. maybe they had a time machine in that movie), and retains his Indian accent. Well I watched it for only half an hour and went away bored... anyone care to tell me who he married in the end?

The expression he has on his face in posters, phone cards and movies would do if he were modelling for a gay rights. He sure is one metrosexual :D

I have met many who publicly talk non sense of Hindi movies to show off that they are ahead of times and happening! and they secretly watch all the bollywood blockbusters in a shady pirated CD. They would have liked it, but they will maintain their stance. I am no ones fan neiher SRK's or Aamirs. Hence, Veer Zaara was a decent movie to me, a SRK fan would have loved it. I did not.

You guys have managed to hijack the discussion to something else. As usual.

Things are supposed to happen the way they happen. And the reason they happen the way the happen is because you try to make them happen in a certain way and may or may not be succesful.
