How thick is the rung? As in it's diameter/height.solosynergy wrote:A 10 foot rope ladder hangs over the side of a boat with the bottom rung on the surface of the water. The rungs are one foot apart, and the tide goes up at the rate of 6 inches per hour. How long will it be until three rungs are covered?

Ha Ha Ha Solo is taking u for a ride.....Thatz a trick question.....The ladder also goes up with the boat......so it never gets submerged......

Well he never mentioned anything about wooden rungs... So there's no taking anyone for a ride. When there's insufficient data, one can assume anything.ycr007 wrote:solosynergy wrote:A 10 foot rope ladder hangs over the side of a boat with the bottom rung on the surface of the water. Well, what wooden rungs r u talking abt??? Oh I See. U r assuming that since the rungs are wooden, they'll float on water n never get submerged???Thatz not the case. The ladder is on the boat's side na? When the boat goes up with the water,so will the ladder and hence does'nt get submerged.
Don't think that as the boat goes up,the ladder's gonna stay put

Why are 1968 pennies worth more than 1967 pennies?

Let me repeat myself, insufficient data... one can always assume the ship is anchored and docked at the port.ycr007 wrote:igiveadamn wrote:Well he never mentioned anything about wooden rungs... Yeah it wouldn't unless the anchor broke or it tilted over..ycr007 wrote:Let me repeat myself, insufficient data... one can always assume the ship is anchored and docked at the port.
Assume whatever u want. But physics n common sense says that the boat will go up with the tide. When the boat goes up,all the people on board and everything connected to the ship also goes up.Since the ladder also goes up,it stays over water. And do u think that an anchored ship won't raise with the tide???

There's one scene where Vito Corleone goes and takes an orange from the market and he's shot at, but he doesn't die there. Or wasn't tht an orange?azazel wrote:solosynergy wrote:there is no significance of the oranges. lets move on. that was posted last night.
goddddddddddamit, u nit-wits..
the significance is: whenever there is an orange shown in a scene, there is a death.
The following problem was given to cadets at naval academy to have a check on their knowledge of sea dynamics.
A ship is at anchor. Over the side hangs a rope ladder with rungs a foot apart. The tide rises at the rate of eight inches an hour. At the end of six hours how much of the ladder will remain above water when the tide begins to rise?
The answer is as follows. Since the ship's afloat, the water level in relation to the ship stays the same. Therefore, eight feet are above water at the end as at the beginning
