I dislike animal lovers for this very reason. First we should make sure that the world is good enough for Humans. Then we can shift our focus to animals.

there are already 100s of organizations fighting for human rights. whats wrong if a handful are concerned abt animal rights.

animals are also god's creatures and have the right to a dignified life, even when headed for the slaughter house.

remember that humans are the most dangerous and vilest creatures in the planet. they are responsible for misery to fellow humans or to non-humans. non-humans need some support too.

the behaviour of a society towards animals is also an indicator of their level of civilization. humans are multiplying like crazy and encroaching non-human property and rights, not the other way around.

im with Sharjeel on this issue.. i understand ur point CAD but still, if the Animal Rights Activists show even some amount of empathy towards fellow humans than that which they shower on animals, the world could be a better place.

theres nothing wrong in taking care of abused animals. those poor things cant even help themselves. human right activists will do there job. why cant they coexist with animal lovers?

PETA's website is the place to start. They just promote vegetarian diets, see that animals are treated properly, see that they get celebrity backing so that their fans can turn from non-vegetarians to vegitarians, etc. :)

all thats just some publicity stunt to capture attn.

PETA promotes vegetarianism. for non-vegetarians it asks them to treat the animals in a humane way b4 killing them.

and its not just food. they also oppose killing animals unnecessarily for things like fur etc.

see, one point down. dun think ppl who read or see these pics actually do so out of love for animals.

i see. but i already do the latter so another point down.

and its not just food. they also oppose killing animals unnecessarily for things like fur etc.

why is it unnecessary? it may be essential for ppl living in the colder regions of the globe. i see no harm in them using fur. another point down.

That cannot be abu gharib. Those soldiers are not americans, but American trained Iraqi special commandoes. They were gonna attack Fallujah yesterday, thats where these pics came from I guess.

Heard on TV that there are 3000 insurjents in that city and half million population and every civilian is gonna be treated as a potential insurjent  . This is precisely the attitude that promotes hatred. Instead of treating every civilian as insurjent, every insurgent should be treated as a civilian till positively identified as terrorrist. That would prevent collateral damage and civilain casualities, though it would result in more body bags for US. But in the longer run, it will develop a good will among Iraqi pop for americans helping decrease casualities.

Just my 2 paisa.

at ne given moment there will b more ppl. fighting for human rights than for animal rights.

but i guess u r more concerned abt. whats heppening in Iraq. but the ppl. from red cross and other such orgs. will b there. its just that they dont hog the limelight. ans unlike the previous wars this time the UN is no involved...which is a shame.

i see your point Az, and i kind of agree, but you can rationalise along the same lines with charity, like saying why are you collecting money for research into MS, when Cancer is a bigger killer, why are you wasting your medical career trying to find a cure for AIDS when there's 10 times the number dying of malaria, etc.

everyone sees the world in a different way, and trys to make it better in their own way based on that.

That said, some of the animal rights people are batshit crazy.

I am with Azazel all the way.

1. Animals do not have even 25% of the emotional awareness that humans have. Therefore, apart from treating them very nicely (which is a good idea anyway and anyhow) it would make no difference if we put them ona pedestial and fed them out of gold bowls.

2. IMHO, animals are there as something which help humans (with all due respect). Be it their meat, skin, fur, whatever.

We should be good to animals and be humane with them. But we should also stop treating them like VIPs.

In 1993 I went with a friend to the Banjara Hills branch of Blue Cross owned by Amala, the kukkalamma. My friend wanted to adopt a puppy. The phenol cleaned kennel had a dozen odd dogs picked from the street, with Band-Aids stuck on various parts of their bodies :D Those dogs were treated better than patients in a government hospital. Well, what do these animal rights people know? They need their names to show up once in a while on the popularity charts. At that time, dog menace was quite serious in that area.. and some children were badly injured and one even killed by a pack of dogs :(.. and what happened next? The Blue Cross protested against the killing of stray dogs, and instead lodged them in 5 star kennels after attending to their wounds with "Micky and Donald" Band-Aid.

CAD are you arguing for arguments sake or are you serious ?

If its just one of those, of the hand comments that you let out its ok. But how can you justify, spending hundreds to millions of dollars for a cause, where as half the world reels in poverty and hunger.

Whats the point in fighting for something which is not true on the face of it.

Three years back in Hyderabad on Lakdi Ka Pul. A man was found dead, cause of death "Due to cold and hunger", and you justify spending time and resources to close tanneries and humane treatment of pigs and dogs???
