Like most people, it always depends on my mood. I listen to rock when I am feeling pepped up, classics when I'm being nostaligic(can be any genre as long as it's from my younger days), hip-hop/rap/techno/hindi remix/dicso when I am in a party mood, Robert Miles when I am sad.
If I am the future, we are history.

I feel it is important to know the bands and the histories in order to really appreciate the music.

Have just started to understand music (after being in love with music for 18 odd years). I now:

Have no particular preference for any style of music.

Listen to the B-side songs as well. There are a lot of diamonds which I have uncovered.

Try to find out why the song was made.

Actually look at the names of the lyricist, etc.

Can now reel of the histories of most good bands (Hindi and English).

Gimme Hindi Movie songs anytime.........

I listen to other Genres as well but only when i'm online.English music is too costly to purchase. But Hindi music is easily available n moreover is affordable.I mainly tune in to Rahman's songz be it in Hindi, telugu or Tamil.

I guess music has become a part of the human psyche itself. Ive seen myself growing thru the phases of music. From Sound of music and the like videos that my father used to rent out for our viewing and singing pleasure to the swinging rock of the millennium.

But I always wonder how one can see true pure harry potter magic in some songs/artists, while others just fall flat……..

What makes a song hit ur senses…what makes a song bounce off in a rightangle…

Anybody remember Sinead o connor …a one song wonder “nothing compares…’ and boom she’s gone….another Tommy page “shoulder to cry on..” and didn’t hear of him again….

Im tolerent to almost everything the present hypertalented/creative musicians are dishing out....but I spare myself (run a mile) from the so called RAP and boy/girl bands......

Though belonging to the generationX(the 13th generation of the planet)...Im all for the likes of Elvis, Neil diamond and the likes...none can cut thru them........kurt cobain and Jim morrisson who changed the destiny of rock music and my hearts feels like it bleeds when I listen to them.............its more words and metal than music.........

Rap music is good. I dont know why most people hate it. Guess it has acquired a bad name.

well she's been making music for 15-20 years, she never aimed for pop status, the fact that her music only once intersected what's popular enough to be heard the world over shouldn't be heald against her. whether you've heard of a persons music or not shouldn't be a judge of it's worth.

music is something that just get better as it gets older.specially when u get older with the music. the songs that really make me get goose pimply are the stuff that i used to listen as a kid. there was a phase when i was a total floyd freak but then i overdid it then.i still do worship them but then they don sway me away like they used to.again songs always take me in the past.the songs that i have listened to again and again at a point in the past always make me remember the good times that i have had then. but then of all the genres of music classic rock is what really rocks me.

none taken at all Naomi (really nice name by the way). i just wanted to point out that while someone might have appeared to have dissappeared they're still out there making a living in their own way.

music i dont think is wine to get better with age, thinking of it, the 60 s and the 70 s, i would still consideer the greatest times in the modern era of music, but how many bastards from the 80 s and the 90s who have topped charts for years together will actually be rememberd 4 years from now?

remember the backstreet boys, the boyzone, the spice girls? they remained on the top charts all throughout the year for a couple of years, and sincerely, how many of us still remember those creeps?

On the other hand, there are bands, maybe bands might a wrong term to use, legends who have been dead for decades now and people still love them for their music and these guys have been raised to the level of a demi gods. I am not sure if people will still remember eminem 10 years down the lane, but Elvis will be still be around.

nicely put, man. music that not just lives on in memory, but appeals to new generations who weren't even born when the musician died.

Vanilla Ice is not remembered for his talent, just coz he was the joke-of-the-day for his short lived success.
