Haiku!

by Sharjeel » Sat Nov 06, 2004 1:12 pm

Anyone read/write Haiku? I think they are beautiful! There is so much meanig in so little words. I especially love Haiku by children.

Haiku is one of the most important form of traditional japanese poetry. Haiku is, today, a 17-syllable verse form consisting of three metrical units of 5, 7, and 5 syllables.

Just use Google to search the net for Haiku (there are Millions of Haiku out there!), and post the ones you like. I will start:

In the cicada's cry

No sign can foretell

How soon it must die.

Clouds appear

and bring to men a chance to rest

from looking at the moon.

I kill an ant

and realize my three children

have been watching.

Haiku by children:

Christmas

Glass balls and glowing lights.

Dead tree in living room.

Killed to honor birth.

---

Computers

alone, on the web,

drops of sensitivity

embrace an eyelash

Faceless, just numbered.

Lone pixel in the bitmap-

I, anonymous.

---

the morning paper

harbinger of good and ill

I step over it

I'd heard of 'Haiku' before, but never knew what it was. Here are some Haiku poems that caught my fancy:

Chilly Night

here I go to sleep

soft pillows, and big blankets

it's pretty cold out

Celestial Delight

awashed in crimson

sky boisterously chuckles

water simply beams

Portrait Of You

portrait of the moon

sketches full on black canvas

reminds me of you
Whenever you can't sleep
May you be treated to a song
And heaven cracks
A song falls softly from the light of heaven.
