Metals are conductive - elctrical and thermal. So if u use a metal bowl to heat in microwave, the metal gets hot (as it provides least conductive path for micro-waves) leaving the food cold. I am not sure though, need to look it up.

well microwaves are a pretty high energy source. and the composition of metal does not agree with microwaves. i guess it has somethin to do with the valence electron gettin excited and conucting electricity under radiation thereby casuing arcing.
