hello people,
I dont generally post views on the discussion boards but this topic and the way in which the tread is losing direction made me think otherwise.
To begin with, just one small advice to 'arti' on how to avoid being spat on, stop walking on the roads with that 'particular friend'.( just kidding. There are no real solutions,only real problems.)
Now coming to the topic at hand, no one i know ever faced this problem in hyderabad but i faintly remember reading about it and i dont even remember where and when , might have as well been in maharastra where i spent a lot of time and chewing paan is a much more common thing there. But just becoz it dint happen to anyone i know i dont think it doesnt happen. Even normal crimes dont happen to everybody but they do happen.right? And becoz it happens and its not right it should be condemned. Discussion boards are the new public forums, where do u condemn it other than here. even if it is a rare incident. This should answer the people who were arguing about the rarity of the occurances.
( i agree with one point of yours though, guys do try to impress females in what ever form they think is best --everyone of us does it, some in crude ways, others in a more intellectual way

)
And the issue we are discussing here is about things that happen in hyderabad that are not good for the image of the city, so be it one odd incident or whole lot of them, they do the same damage to the image of the city & its people, for the person involved. These things happen everywhere in india and abroad, but does it make it alright for them to happen here. Do u guys want to take pride in city that might become a bihar or accept that something is wrong and try and do ur bit to improve it. So the guys who are vehemently denying that these things happen, just wish that they dont happen to anyone in your family. and i wish they dont happen to anyone.
And now for some real workable solutions,

'arti' since u cant just keep of the roads, i suggest u pick up a real good stone the next time u are walking with ur friend ( what the hell pick as many as u can hold ) , and next time (god forbid ) if some does try and spit hit him hard. i think u will need some practice throwing stones(spent batteries are a good alternative) but thats the only workable reply apart from noting the vehicle number and lodging a complaint for assault and battery.( but this takes a long time and all of us dont have time.)

about the touching n brushing ,, if u havent noticed there males out there are ready to help the damsels in distress( an other way of impressing

) so all u have to do is catch hold of the collar of the person who does that immediately and make a racket, the bystanders will be only too willing to help. if u let he person go with just murmuring ur curses to urself he will do it again. so if u give it back to him in public he might detest rom doing it in the future. its worth a try.

and if these things happen in lonely areas,, no real solution except learn martial arts , carry a pepper spray( i read that they are avialable in india these days) , and finally AVOID THOSE AREAS.

Finally one last thing about hyderabad,, i have been here for the past 1 yr and what i noticed is the - you can try and take hyderabad out of the gutter but you just cant take the gutter out the people here. Its a honest opinion i developed about this lovely city.
