Dreaded sandalwood smuggler Veerappan and three of his associates were killed on Monday night, a top Tamil Nadu police official told PTI.

A Special Task Force team of the Tamil Nadu police, headed by Jaykumar, shot dead the dacoits in an encounter at Papparapatti village in Dharmapuri district.

For every one veerappan there will b 100 even more dangerous politicians.

Its good that He's dead.

But i do believe that politicians had some interest in his death.

yeah i visited Ooti in 2002, we had to cancel part of our trip as he was active in the area at the time.

i remember i had heard that he had killed a police officer, but many locals saw him as something of a Robin Hood figure. I think public opinion has shifted against him of late though?

lots of tribals/villagers in the forests liked veerappan coz he paid them well for food, supplies and information abt police movements. other than that he is not known to have helped the poor or any thing like that.

Then it is different because he was just using them, and not helping them. Even if he did help villagers, he was too nasty and bad to have been pardoned, even after his death.

A peculiar angle in which Veerappan’s end can be analysed.

In his last 7 or 8 years of his life Veerappan had shown his willingness to stick together to the mainland.

Few years back we went to a jungle on an adventure mission.

Even for few days, I could not tolerate the loneliness and terror of jungle life.

We were badly disposed to come to the city as early as possible.

Veerappan had lived a long 20 years in a remote jungle belt.

Literally, and practically he had become an animal.

Without doubt, he had lived the ‘life of a cruel animal’ in his life.

In his initial half of his life, he had the support of all variety of local politicians. His blood thirst never came down. He killed Nagappa.

However, I want to share one point. Behind Veerappan’s life and death hundreds of Karnataka and Tamilnadu politician-animals were/are still thriving. Those politicians are still eating kaju and badam and seeing the television clippings of Veerappan’s death.

Who will kill these animals?

Coming to one, more point the addl DGP Mr Vijayakumar who commanded the final operations has shaved his hairs. I feel a dramatic cinema scene in this.

Now I am sure that all souls killed by this biggest DADA of Indian history, will now rest in perfect peace.

Veerappan was roaming around because of their support. For all the so-called elusiveness of veerappan, if the politicians decided, he would have been history a lot sooner.

Haan yaar. Would have loved it if they found out who was behind Veerappan.
