The Dhakyanusi Indian VS Cool Indian

India a land of rich cultural heritage.

Pratices in our tradition imbibed by our fore fathers have possibly been done to avoid present day vices.



Such as



- Coughing or knocking on the door, before walking into ones own house.



- Respect and behaving in front of elders, (badao ke saamne unchi awaj me nahi baat karna)



- Elders behaving in front of children. (NOT EVEN WATCHING MOVIES OR LISTENING TO SONGS IN FRONT OF CHILDREN)



I remember 18-20 yrs back when children are watching TV elders never came in, and the other way around.



^^^^^ Now being considered Dhakyanusi and Crap.



The cool Indian:



- First association with a ROCK / POP group.

- USE OF SLANG (birth right)

- NO elders and children, everybody needs to gel and chillax.



This has led to the disintgration of societies around the globe, sodomy, paedophilia etc etc are a result of this cool culture. Is India headed that route.



The change in the past few years, apart from technology we are sure to be the super power in ""COOLNESS"" is it right?

but hating is not the solution, what I feel is accept what is right.



For e.g. Frankness and openness, a good thing in the "western culture", you will not find people beating around the bush.



The idea here was, the present Indian Youth think that by endorsing Jackson or Heavy metal they can identify themselves in the global community.

The general trend is to shun all your Indianness to be able to make a mark globally, which is so untrue.



Activists around the globe are fighting to get those finer points in their communities which Indians have by default.

There are good and bad things during every time and era. We do seem to be leaving the station of sanity as we progress. But I have not lost faith in humanity. After all the novelty of being outspoken/cool/whatever has worn off, they will go back to their chivalrous and modest and decent ways again.

Generalising oriental culture as being good and western culture being bad is not a very healthy practice. Each culture has its own good or bad points. In our own culture, we've had some negatives which have been discussed often in these fora. Ideally, people should imbibe the best of all cultures that they have access to. But, as I said, it's an ideal picture, not something that's very practical. Human beings would always be prone to follies.

Come tothink of it, when you hate the negatives from the western culture, atleast one individual is coming out of the system unscathed. That is a lot of good.

Yea a trend can be disliked but not all aspects of a culture.



Anyway its about the old fashioned and supposedly cool Indian. Where is this coolness leading to ?



To keep abreast with coolness we are losing at a drastic pace.



We lost our wealth to occupiers, that loss was not bad. Today we are losing much more then that ....

my 2 cents: yes, there is a lot of western influence on everyone these days. n yes, ppl do seem to go to great lengths to show-off their coolness by imbibing a lot of craaap in their lives. so? leave 'em be! sooner or later, they'll come back to reality. All U n I could do is, take the better aspects of anything n act on them. Leaving behind ur own culture just coz the world thinks its old/boring/whatever is stoopid.

there are lots of things i like about culture in the uk and ireland, respect for individuality, privacy, etc. however the celebrity driven economy drives me nuts, in a year where 50000 people die in a single earthquake in Iran the front pages of the majority of newspapers rarely leave the topic of who David Beckam is cheating on now, or some nobody who won a reality tv show and insists on displaying their breasts in the street.
