Oops I lost My Accent

by SimarikSmokin » Sun Oct 10, 2004 5:42 pm

Ok now i know am i the only one who notices these details in indian movies? ok they say they are from london or America how come when we hear them talking in english no accent???? i mean seriously? i lost my accent???

Like in Mujhe Dosti Karogi he boy moves to "London" when he is like what 12 and its the 1980's right he read Archie Comics when they weren'nt out till like 1996 and that little girl has a Apple computer when those computers didn't come out till 1999-2000.

Seriously if you are from america you would have a little bit accent.

But i guess I LOST MY ACCENT!

Little Sister, I would like to point out that Archies Comics were read decades before you were even born. If I remember right, I read Archies comics that were published in 1972. After 84-85 they seem to have lost their quality and fanbase.

Apple Computers were the first desktop PCs. they where around when God threw Adam down. In fact, Adam used an old Mac to pinpoint Eve's location.

As far as accents go, yes it is amazing to find our heroes have perfect hindi after staying in the States or Europe all their lifes and even if 'pehli baar apne desh aaya hai'! On the other end, we have people like Tom Hanks, Jodie Foster, Amitabh Bachhan, Amir Khan, etc who actually prepare for their roles. But we also have to keep in mind that the actors like Salman Khan generally get popcorn roles and so it would be foolish to prepare hard for films like Hum Saath Saath Hain.

Bollywood performers need to learn how to really get into the skin of the character theyre portraying. And yes, the accent thing bothers me too. If the heroine was born and raised in America, how come she still speaks with an Indian/British accent? Makes no sense.

I wish Indian film-makers tried to make psychological thrillers.

It'll be another 50 years before hindi films actually become engaging and fun.

So I guess posting about them is really pointless.

Talking about crap. Its everywhere, be it hollywood or hollywood or even tollywood. But one thing we have to realise is that different movie are made for different types of audience. You would not be surprised if i told you that there are people who thoroughly enjoyed "alien VS predator" and Mars attacks. but for me, they seemed stupid and hilarious. just like Eternal sunshine of a beautiful mind, which in my view is one of the best movies i have seen in recent times but for many, it was just useless crap.

same applies to bollywood as well, and there is a lot of flesh on screen these days, maybe i dont pay 2 dollars to rent a video just for the skin in it, but there are people who simply love to see desi chicks do it on screen. It sells, so cannot be branded a bad movie.

numbers do count.

haha  I'm reminded of my classmates, some of whom struggle to maintain their fake accents while talking to the profs. I wonder why they do it. My Chinese and other Asian friends never fake their accents.. THey talk their natural way..

The Mexicans and Orientals speak with their natural accent, I wonder why Indians feel the need to fake it. To fit in an alien country, perhaps? Maybe. Too much pride? Could be that too.

I noticed one thing, when Indian try to speak in a fake accent its really visible,I mean I could understand an american without any problem but once an indian tries to fake an accent its just visible that hes trying very hard to get it.I cant understand them in the first place. Another thing is that when they are with their american friends they try to ignore people from India(some of them, not all) .And yeah I never noticed an oriental with a fake accent, never met a mexican. :D
