I dont condone or condemn parents slapping their children when absolutely necessary. Depends on the childs age and crime. Its a personal choice a parent has. Since I dont have kids, its easy for the idealistic me to say that I wont hit my kids. My dad never hit any of his kids, were were scared to death when he gave us a serious talking-to. My mom rarely ever hit us, but when she did, it did work to correct our ways.

I have the same sort of experience to Alexis. We were scared to death by the thought of even a scolding. We were rarely ever beaten as children, but we knew that we could be given a beating if we did something bad enough, and that was enough to keep us honest. It really shows (Alhamdulillah) how good our parents were in bringing us up...

Beating/spanking are important, but only as deterrents (like nuclear weapons). They should be RARELY used. Beatings should be like the ultimate punishment.

WEll i agree to hitting when needed but i see everyday parents just hitting for the pleasure of it, or they have a mental illness for doing that like on lifetime i saw this movie where she would make her child sick because she has issues.

(slightly edited) the kind of ppl u mention here are the ones who're in need of counselling; punishment even in some cases. of the latter, i feel sometimes the pressure of everyday life just gets to u so much that u just loose it. then again, it may be attributable to the kind of parenting/abuse they themselves had to endure.

Hi folks.... am kinda new to the DBs and this board seems to really enjoy here... i spend too much ... i say too much time on this board....sometimes grinnin at the kiddin yaal do down here....i don by any way miss hyderabad by any means.......

Not to hurt any one here, to me love doesnt mean anythin as its a metamorphism of physical attraction. its perfectly materialist.

If love is only physical attraction for you, what abt the love which we feel for our family?

Love can be sometimes only physical attraction, and many times starts as one, but long-lasting love can seldom be materialistic or just lust. Look at J Lo, Britney for some extreme examples of the fallability of the love you talk about.

As I mentioned in one of my previous posts here, love is a fondue of various emotions and like is one of them. Of all these emotions, there would be one that dominates. Even between a man and a woman, love can happen with any of these emotions dominating. What you are talking about is a specific case where lust dominates the relationship. Love is much more than that.

ABSO-f**king-lutely not !!! Hitting is not acceptable in any form or for any reason whatsoever , that too a CHILD !!! If its your child your pretty much responsible for what he/she does... to a certain extent a reflection of u. So, i'm saying its your fault , spank urself , if u need to. Anyway what purpose is a slap or pinch going to serve ?! If the intention is to dissuade him/her from repeating that action ..what is to garuntee he won't when ur not around! The whole policy of pleasure and punishment is so flawed.you've gotto give the kid more reason than that. You have to give the child a better explanation and understanidng of what he did was wrong , make them realise the effect of their action. Next time his conscience will be there to prick him.

So love and hate have to coexist for any of them to exist. Besides we wouldnt know what love is if we didn't have hate to compare it to. If a person's been constipated all his life how would he know he is ? He would just think its normal right.
