As far as I know and read about Gandhi.. I dont think he made any such promise on paper or media. Jinnah was very critical of gandhi and his way of winnign freedom. Jinnah wanted freedom for India but he didnt want to oppose the british. Jinnah was very opposed to all the movements started by gandhi. Gandhi had talks with Jinnah about the partition and he tried to convince Jinnah not to divide India, but he failed.CtrlAltDel wrote:Gandhi wanted to make Jinnah the first prime minister to avert partition and Jinnah was agreeable to that. but the Congress _ staunchly opposed that and we can see the results today
I read that mail too... If I am not wrong, it was posted on FHDB early this year. May be a hoax... but Nehru was known to be a ladies man.Cowboy wrote:My little respect was gone when I read about the actual history behind Nehru, Indira, Feroze, Rajiv and Sanjay. You guys should've got that forwarded mail like a thousand times. It was an eye-opener.
Thats true akhil and that waht surprised me the most. But I guess since he was in politics for a long time and had major connections he was the obvious choice of all the Muslims.akhil wrote:In in his initial days he was a staunch supporter of hindu-muslim ekta. later changed his mind as he thot he was not getting enuf respect....
all this seperate state theory was only to settle a personal prejudice against the INC.
Infact he wasnt a true muslim in neway. he never read the Quran, used to drink wine every day.....and yet he was leading a muslim state!
Yes you are right... but the number is somewhere in the ball park (I think its 27%). Anyway, he was not interested in Indian Unity from the first; all he wanted was a seperate nation that he can do as he pleases with. To what avail.. he died barely a year after Pakistan was formed(1948) and everything went downhill from there and it continues to date. Not only is that country dragging itself to the bottom.. its trying to pull India down too. Thats what sucks!MM wrote:Well, Jinnah wanted 36% seats in parliament for Muslims, which is way more than the percentage of muslim population.

lots of books n articles on Gandhi, Jinnah n the Partition talk abt this. It seems gandhi made this appeal as a last ditch effort to avert partition.asli_badmash wrote:As far as I know and read about Gandhi.. I dont think he made any such promise on paper or media. i had posted it long ago in this forum. dunno whether its a hoax or not, but the contents of that article were damn convincing.asli_badmash wrote:I read that mail too... If I am not wrong, it was posted on FHDB early this year. May be a hoax... but Nehru was known to be a ladies man.

Of all the books I have read about the partition and I didnt come across this. Maybe I should read more. I will take it as an opinion till I solidify it with facts.CtrlAltDel wrote:lots of books n articles on Gandhi, Jinnah n the Partition talk abt this. Yeah I remeber.. it was damn convincing article about Nehru and the whole clan.. how they changed religions from being Parsi to being a Hindu. How they changed Feroz Ghandy to Feroz Gandhi to legitimize Indiras marraige. The origins of Sanjay Gandhi and Nehrus illegitimate child. I guess they have too many skeletons in the closet... if it is true.CtrlAltDel wrote:i had posted it long ago in this forum. dunno whether its a hoax or not, but the contents of that article were damn convincing.asli_badmash wrote:I read that mail too...
