Can psychics really see the past/future?

by Marysol » Sun Sep 19, 2004 12:56 pm

I’m sure everyone has seen the signs for “$5 Psychic Readings” in their town or while traveling elsewhere. What I wanted to discuss here were your thoughts on using psychics for more than just personal entertainment, more specifically in police and detective work.

There’s been documented cases in the past where police haven’t been able to solve a crime, at which point they turn to a psychic for help. What I find the most interesting is when the psychics they hire actually solve the case.

What are your thoughts on this? What about using psychics to help solve some of the current investigations (such as the Peterson or Hacking trials?)

I’m not an expert myself on the topic, but I’ve been learning a bit more from a new show on Court TV called Psychic Detectives. It’s on Wednesday’s at 9:30pm in case you want to watch it too.

What do you think?

I believe there are psychics, but I dont think anyone can read the future clearly. Otherwise we would all be serving them (or are we already doing so?).

The problem with the suggestion you have put up (i.e., using psychics for detective/police investigations) is that psychics don't get these visions at will. It is sort of a gift (some may call it a curse) which only sometimes occurs. There have been cases in the past which have been solved by psychics but they form a very very small fraction.

P.S.-wudn't u prefer psychics??? (Take it away, Guruji  )
Things are supposed to happen the way they happen. And the reason they happen the way the happen is because you try to make them happen in a certain way and may or may not be succesful.

What do you think about Nostradamus...

Also do you think the following people are also cheats..

- Palmist.

- People who read foot lines( found out about them recently)

- Pandits who match birth charts.

- Mullahs who writes Taabiz.

- Pundits who perfomr Yagnas for rain.

- A particular group of people in south India who claim to have sacred texts that have the life history of all the people on earth written down with them already. ( I saw a program on them I forget from which place they were. )

- People who exorcize demons...

all this talk of psychics n seeing the future...i've never seen it happen nor have i met anyone who has personally expereinced it....all the 'true' tales i hear are more like "it happened to my cousin's friend" or "..to my grandpa's brother-in-law" etc ...no direct personal experience...

till i see proof i shall remain a skeptic abt all these things...

i dont believe in palmistry, astrology, numerology etc...never been convinced about this...

Donno where I read this, not the exact text but have a jist of the subject.

Apparently

Satan was and is one of the most learned creation.

He once used to teach angles before he was turned away.

It seems that all the above get thier knowledge from the Satan, who uses them to obtain his ulterior motive, i.e. to lead people astray.

Be it Nostardamus or any of these Pyshics they do predict, thier prediction is never true (it is very close to the truth).

*Have you ever heard that a prediction was word to word true. ?

And thats Satans pehchaan, if he could tell truth why would he be Satan ?

He can lead you very close to truth, but infact is leading you astray. What appears to be true is infact a big lie. ?

**********************************************************

Does it sound familiar, very close to truth, but not actually true (aka co alition leaders).

I know where you would have read this.. Book of DQ.. Chap 6; Para 6; Line 6.. 666! :P

But seriously.. All ehl-ai-kitab(people of the book) namely Jews, Christians, Muslims are told this because this is written in the Torah, Bible and the Quran. Its written that Satan is a fallen Angel who refused to bow to the Adam a creation of God, since he thought he was an angle and much higher than Man. Hence God threw him out of heaven... to where Earth or Hell??? I dont know. Why did god not throw satan to mars or say pluto. I dont know.. maybe there is a Satan for Mars and a Satan for Pluto. :?

This is deeply entrenched in a Muslim mind that people who do magical things get their knowledge from the Satan, this comes down directly from the times of the prophet. He disliked people with magical skills and deemed them messengers of Satan. (So I am told!)

Oh din know about the Islamic version here.

But did read in one of the books on Mystical beleifs. Did not care much about the retaining the link to refer but the gist of the explanation was as earlier. Possibly the chapter was explaining the muslim / jewish beleifs etc.

Wel as far as Hyd Muslims go, magical beleifs and peers is embeded in their culture. If some one falls ill, he is taken to a peer first then to a doctor :-/

Tell me about it  .. Its ridiculous.

If someone falls ill the person is being hounded by a jinn and he needs to be taken to a baba who will try to exorcize him.

What the hell is wrong with people? Dont they know that the person needs medical attention and not some baba waving his peacock feathers and filling the room with incense. Did you know half these god men are thugs-thieves and cheats. :x

I find it surprising.. Not just Muslims... even Hindu folk come to Durgah of Muslim peers seeking to make "mannats". How ridiculous!

some ppl will go to great lengths to sanctify the fact tht everything predicted by Nostradamus has occured or will occur. AFAImC, he was just another astrologer. i dun believe they can accurately predict the future.

none of Nostradamus's predictions are clear. they are open to interpretations by all and ppl generally pick up verses that suit them and then add their own spin to its meaning
