I completely agree with that chap. Who needs Mandira Bedi or some skin showing chick when we get to watch Saurav 'the dada' Ganguly or Rahul 'the wall' Dravid in action? BURN SETMAX!

Yeah, cheap tricks to tap into an already existing market. I hope they leave cricket alone and let professional channels like ESPN or StarSports do the coverage.

What is cheap about a curious female asking questions on national TV?

Even the 'professional' ESPN channel uses blondes to interview football coaches and players on american TV. Ever seen the type of questions they ask?

I would nt mind a curious female interviewing a player on national TV, like in footie games, but live commentry is a different story, it takes a guy to be a galdiator and another guy to announce to the world about what this gladiator is and how he is fighting.

and yeah, i dont know about the football games in the US, but the female interviewers here only talk about how good the footie players thighs are and how awesome his chest is.

theres nothing wrong women doing the anchoring job of the pre and post match shows or even commentating as long as they are knowledgable women. women like mandira bedi and ruby bhatia are a pain to watch. they dont know anything abt the game.

i remember during the world cup sanjay manjrekar asked mandira bedi to shut up (on live tv) as she didnt have any knowledge abt. the game.

once when ruby bhatia was anchoring a post match show with srikant...srikant reffered to laxman as a compulsive hooker of the ball and mrs. bhatia was like ... u guys dont know what u're talking abt!!!

if thats the knowledge they have abt. cricket....then we dont need them. on the other hand if its a lady sports journalist (like the one who does sports reporting on NDTV) then its not bad at all.

ne one seen the lousy hoardings of mandira bedi weaing skimpy clothes for promoting the champions trophy? *blech*

Mandira, Ruby and others of the glam brigade serve the purpose of attracting eyeballs to the TV, thereby helping the advertisers/sponsors. they serve their purpose very well.

even most of the ppl who complain abt Madira wait for 'Extra Innings' just to ogle at her cleavage and check out her clothes, what she talks be damned. and during every commercial break, wake up and curse her lack of cricket knowledge. in the mean time all the adverts are viewed without changing channels. isnt this what the TV guys want?

y not? aren't cricket followers attracted to pretty ladies?
akhilis2cool wrote:...some one who is interested in watching the cricket ball more than the other balls on display wld. not enjoy it.
but y? these ladies are not interrupting the game in any way. they speak only during the breaks. they just add fun n glamour to an otherwise boring meaningless discussions by a bunch of pot-bellied not-so-good-looking men. they are not there to analyse the game and discuss how the captain ought to arrange the field or what strokes the batsman ought not have played....

why do ppl tolerate side shows like the Shaz n Waz antics, Harish Bhimani. thats too not cricket. no hears bad comments abt these jokers in the media or in any discussion.

Mandira etc are there only to inject some glamour and to boost TRP. take them as such and enjoy the eye candy.

When you guys talk about Mandira,it reminds me of a funny incident.I was having lunch at Fortune Katriya and I saw Mandira there with two other guys(I figured they must be her sponcerers or something like that because they kept on calling her Madam). One was kinda old(Like mid forties) and the other was kinda young(Like mid twenties.I figured the younger guy was his PA or assistant beacuse he kept on calling the older guy sir.Anyway after their lunch,Mandira told them that she will change her dress and come back and they will go to some place.First the older guy was like,I will also come with you Madam, she said no,but the guy even insisted on going. Then the younger guy started,I will also come with you.Mandira kept on saying no,but these guys kept on saying we will come with you upstaires.

It was one funny scene.I dont know what those guys expected  on going upstaires but the scene was hilarious, all the people in the restaurant were gigling. :D :D

sahee bola CAD bhai!

Who cares about what those analysts talk on TV?

I am a cricket fan. I dont need no former cricketer tell me how that ball

could have been played and how the match could have turned our way or

the other way. I am a fan and I know the game. And I am sure the player

on the ground too knows how a ball should/could be played.

I listen to commetnary when the game is in progress and thats more than enough for me.

I dont need no more anal-ysis, all I need is some visual pleasure in between overs and since we

dont have cheer leaders or golden girls or a band, I will make do with mandira bedi. 8)

This is the lamest argument to have ever come up on cricket. Here are some facts.

1. The much Hyped Cricket ke asli baadshah start their analysis half an hour before the match gets under way. So does Sony.

2. The match commentary is delivered by ex-cricketers and columnists on both ESPNStar and Sony.

3. Extraa Innings is a one and a half hour capsule that starts 2 hours before scheduled start of play on Sony. This is done to pull in audience from hitherto untapped sections like housewives etc. Perfect business sense. And puritans can skip it if they don't like it.

The only difference here is that ESPNStar has a percieved edge as far as the analysis goes. But I don't think the cricketing insight of Kapil Dev, Sanjay Manjrekar and Arjuna Ranatunga is any less than that of Geoffrey Boycott, Navjyot Sidhu and Alan Wilkins. Ravi Shastri, IMO, the best of the lot is a freelancer anyways.

of course they are.....but does it make any sense to ppl. interested in the game? I know it makes a gr8 business sense as new audience is tapped but the only ppl. benifiting from it are the channel guys no one else. if house wives did not understand the game before mandira bedi came on how r they going to understand it now? is she going to do something special?
i just happened to watch the telecast of extra innings y'day and other than mandira bedi everyone else was talking...she sat there dumb faced not understanding whats going on around her.....it looks stupid...even tho it mite make business sense.
CtrlAltDel wrote:but y? these ladies are not interrupting the game in any way. they speak only during the breaks. they just add fun n glamour to an otherwise boring meaningless discussions by a bunch of pot-bellied not-so-good-looking men
analysis is better done by ex cricketers than by someone who knows nothing abt. it. ne way pot bellied ppl. are there on both espn and sony....but frankly speaking ppl. are more interested in the game than the analysis (baal ki khaal nikalna).

shaz and waz is as stupid, if not more, than mandira bedi. but i do believe that espn star being a sports channel does a better job overall than sony as far as cricket match presentation is concerned.

I would like to know a few things. Involving dumb, beautiful/cleavage showing girls in between overs/ innings may be beneficial to the channel, but what use it is to a cricket fan? When I watch a match i watch it to get some action, learn a few new things and pray tht my favorite team wins. It wouldn't change it even if there were a few chicks out there. If I wanted to watch cleavage and jerk off in front of the television I would go watch other channels like MTV or V. There is no need to mix sport with chicks. It's not good for the game and upcoming cricket players. In my opinion it does not serve any purpose. Sport events are better off when left to professional sport channels. Why talk about football in america? This is cricket, not football. That country has a lot of dumbf***s, we don't have to take them as an example.

You are right.. those men are better than Mandira for you CAD...

Mandira has no place on cricket forums. She is only there to show her assets and look stupid. Even CAD can do that.

She wouldnt know a NO-BALL from a WIDE-BALL. Hehehehe

Imagine.. when a BALLER would BALL a no-ball she would go up to the BALLER and say "I understand how you feel being a NO-BALL. but look at the bright side.. you still have the wicket. :D "
