P.S.: This is not a dug up post. I wanted to ressurect this thread instead of starting a new one about books and novels.

A Civil Action - Jonathan Harr

This tale of a somewhat quixotic quest by an idealistic young lawyer concerns his efforts to secure damages from two corporate giants, Beatrice Foods and W.R. Grace, for allegedly polluting the water in Woburn, Mass., a Boston suburb, with carcinogens. Jan Schlichtmann had hoped that a victory would send a message to the boardrooms of America and felt that the cluster of leukemia victims in Woburn (the disease had claimed the lives of at least six children) guaranteed his success. But he reckoned without certain developments: first, the case went to a federal court, a less sympathetic venue for damage suits than state courts; second, the trial judge appears to have been unsympathetic to his case; third, at least one of the defense witnesses lied; four, defense attorneys evidently failed to deliver all relevant documents to Schlichtmann's team. The case against Beatrice was thrown out, and the plaintiffs accepted a settlement of $8 million from Grace. Personally bankrupt, Schlichtmann considered himself a failure. Former New England Monthly staffer Harr has told the story expertly (Source: Publishers Weekly)

"Whether in truth or fiction, I have never read a more compelling chronicle of litigation." --John Grisham

"A page-turner. Rich and vivid. . . eventful and gripping." --The New York Times

"Once you start A Civil Action, you probably will not be able to put it down." --Washington Post Book World

For me The Bourne Identity was the biggest disappointment.Timeline kinda tried to stick to the book. But in TBI the only thing similar to the book was his name and the fact that he has amnesia.I went to Sangeet with so many expectation and finally :( :( :( .

The other movie I hated was The Lost World.Speilberg ruined the second movie completely. There was nothing similar to the book.It was such a wonderfull book and the movie sucked. :x :x

Poor Michael Crichton has suffered the most because of movie adaptations of novels.

Poor? Michael Crichton made millions of dollars with those deals. I do not think he deserves our sympathy if his books were made into bad movies. JK Rowling kinda ensured that would not happen when she signed the deal for her books. I guess all Crichton wanted was money and no kind of artistic satisfaction through his films.

If ure talkin abt the deal abt her books only then she was too innocent to get the cash. Her publishers ate up all the dough.

If u were talkin abt the deal of the movies then this post doesn't make any sense

Currently reading The Last Sherlock Holmes Story by Michael Dibdin.

Supposed to be narrated by Watson himself, the author seems to have done a pretty thorough job connecting up the original books! Deals with the famous Whitechapel murders by Jack the Ripper.

Dr. Watson and Arthur Conan Doyle are treated as friends... lots of major changes from the original books, hardcore ACD fans might not like this one.

Ok, Michael Dibdin COMPLETELY screwed up his book, and spoilt Sherlock Holmes' image in the process. Yech :P .

Frederick Forsyth absolutely rules. He is the man. Anyone read his book called "The Jackal"? Simply rocks!
