EVER travelled in Mumbai Local

Bhajans and Qawallis, what is the common man to do.

Lending its voice to local 'bhajan mandals', the Shiv Sena on Monday resorted to an agitation on the Western Railway demanding that 'bhajan mandals' be allowed to sing while commuting on suburban trains.

Party workers accompanied 'bhajan mandals' on local trains this morning to enlist their support to the 'mandals', who were recently issued a circular by the police, asking them to refrain from 'creating nuisance' on local trains.

Bhajan-singing is a common feature on local trains where a group of regular commuters spend their time by loudly singing prayer songs to the accompaniment of cymbals and brass bells.

After a long day at work, and specially during Feb-July. AHHHHH. Poor mumbaites. do not let these forces take over your city.

There again u err.... Its important to be informed. Read todays TOI or any national daily.

Leading the agitation, Sena leader Subhash Desai said "the party will support the 'bhajan' singers." Reciting God's name cannot be construed as creating nuisance to fellow commuters, he said.

The Sainiks also carried placards with slogans saying that the 'bhajans' were being sung in India and not Pakistan.

One of the daily suggested that Sena / RSS planning to start Bhajan singing across India, on all commuter trains and buses and busy intersections :-D :-D :-D

FYI : The ban came in effect a couple of days ago and now Sainiks are travelling with the Singers to ensure no on stops or fines them.

AB...thanx for the eye-opener. Although I'm still not convinced about Tagore's priorities as far as love for the nation and love for personal acclaim is concerned, I do see the light as far as the National Anthem issue is concerned. :) Thank you. I feel better now.

As for the bhajan controversy, bhajans have been sung in trains since time immemorial. I feel that the ban on singing bhajans is not fair (I don't know what the judgement of the court says exactly). The ban should have been on using of instruments while singing bhajans on trains.

The other side of the coin is even more interesting. Incidentally, there is a supreme court ban on usage of loudspeakers for religious festivities and its common knowledge how much the ban is being adhered to. There is also a supreme court judgement on the time limit for bursting crackers during Diwali and there too...do I need say more?

All I had hoped was to raise a reasonable doubt in your mind. I guess that being said... the National Anthem can regain its place.

Habitual Perfectionist wrote:I feel that the ban on singing bhajans is not fair
HP is right if there is a ban on singing in the trains. There should be a ban on the Aazan call on loud speaker. The loud speaker in mandir chanting the vedas. The gong of the bell in the church. Infact any use of speaker unless specified by a competent authority should be banned. Is that possible... probably not.

Meanwhile, For the bhajan issue. The Mumbia officials have said that they would ban the singing in the train if some one complained about the noise. If you were in the train would you complain. :?

Exactly my friend. Most of my posts one thing that I have been trying to highlight.

Why are these election nataks given credence ?

Credence to such an extent that 100s and 1000s of lifes are lost. ?

And these guys seem to have so many cats in their bags. Like the Anthem and Flag thing afloat, when the time is right they will stir passions up and 100s of lives are lost again.

Going by FHDB (Considering most of us are between 18-40). The type of people and views.

1. The guy who questions these actions is considered some one with serious problems ?

2. The guy who promotes these thoughts is some one who has the capacity to reason and is excersing his right.

3. Then there are who suggest indifference is the best option (chill man chill out)

And the NATAKS go on and lives are destroyed which inturn is giving rise to insecurities and crime?

To garner votes..

Elections is a mass halucination trick. We all like drama in our dull lives. We are such suckers for emotion. And these leaders give us that. First it was the movies that shaped peoples live now it is the politics.

vote=power=money :lol:

Good you have started it learn to Question.

Do not allow anti national forces to effect you in any way.

When the relegious card is being played. See how honest the argument is.

Overall see if it benefits the masses.

Is it helping in removing their difficulties. Is it helping your nation.

On a personal note, work at improving the conditions of those around you, without malice and pride.

Simple things instead of arguing if national anthem is appropriate and talks about burning / tearing down places of worship.

- See if you can provide consistent education to one poor child.

Consistent means, ensuring that his / her goals are acheived.

Do not look at paying the fees for one year, and dumping them.

- See if you can take care of a impoverished family, try to work with the family to help them come out of the current state.

Think how you can address problems. You have done not only your self service, but have helped the nation and humanity.

A healthy discussion is always welcome DQ....you yourself noticed that you and AB put across the same points and there was a huge difference in the way the board in general and I, in particular took it. You talk big...about helping impoverished families, providing education etc. Have you ever realised how uncouth your own way of discussing a topic is?

Walk your talk dude. On one hand you call every third person MM Joshi. On the other hand, you yourself sound like a warped version of the same old MMJ.

And finally, if you follow this thread right from its start, you'll notice that the only point being discussed was the National Anthem....till you brought up Babri Masjid and then the bhajans. Is this a way of feeding hungry mouths? If it is, it must be really cost effective.

Whats your point HP ?

At different stages the board in general reacted differently so ?

[quote="Habitual Perfectionist"]

"I in particular",

[quote]

Yes why you in particular ? What is affecting you ?

The so "called RV statement" was not gulped by you at all. Why ?

People came back suggesting that it is in bad taste ? I went on and explained what a So called RV is ?

Babri masjid / Bhajans / Qawallis and the national anthem are interrelated. All relate to this "So called RV group" who are out there to score political points.

There is an amicable solution to all these problems, until the political factor pitches in.

Need not repeat the educated masses, instead of giving credence to these issues and allow 100s more to die should look at improving the lives of people around them.

Again my dear HP, (and if you are not Mayavi, then Mayavi too). Umpteen times you have come to me suggesting that I follow the thread and read carefully etc. --- Please quote if at any stage "me suggesting" Babri Masjid and Bhajan is the solution to feed the hungry?? If only you had read carefully.

Uncouth. My dear friend I have proved to you earlier too, playing the blame game and getting personal does not lead to any sort of healthy argument.

Gave you a taste of your own medicine (earlier) and you came back abusing. You should realise that you are in the real world.

Please suggest what you find uncouth Sire. ???

ok ok

before u start cursing me for digging a rather contraversial topic Just Read this

Rabindranath Tagore wrote:"A friend, influential in the government services had approached me to write a song in praise of the king,” Tagore had written in the letter, “His request amazed me, and the amazement was mingled with anger. It was under the stress of this violent reaction that I proclaimed in the Jana Gana Mana song, the victory of the dispenser of India’s destiny”.

sorry Akhil....but this was too hard to resist.

Who certifies Tagore as a true patriot? No one other than our own perceptions. for me, he will always be a stooge of the brits. No doubt, he had great penmanship, but his true feelings for the nation will always remain doubtful.
