u cant deny these historical facts too:

1) nizam wanted to merge hyderabad with pakistan

2) towards the end he became weak and a puppet in Razakars' hands.

3) Razakars were responsible for slaughtering thousands who were oppossed to nizam.

(btw. off topic: the political party Majlis Ittehad ul-Muslimeen was started by the remaining trash of Razakars who wanted a cloak of respectability in a democratic india)

imagine the scene if Nizam had succeeded in his plans of not joining India.

His foolishness and impotence towards the end has negated all his good work. it was really good riddance. my mom's family was here in those terrible days we know what was happening. just looking at what good he did in his hey days cant cover up actual events.

my thoughts on this. throughout the last century the empires of the world were busy breaking up, lots of new countries were being created. It's only in the second part of the 20th that these countries matured and found their national identity. The anthems of these countries usually reflect the turbulant "change period", but this doesn't matter, as it's not what the anthem initially meant that's important, rather what it means to the people of today.

For example, the Irish national anthem is a beautiful but violent song, celebrating rebellion, war, and death. Our country has moved on since then, we're now one of the only neutral countries in western europe, we haven't been involved in war since we gained independence in the early 20's. However this song still speaks to me as a powerful reminder of the sacrifices that people gave so that we can choose our own path.

Anyhow, summary: since most national anthems were written over 100 years ago it's a bit silly to expect the literal interpretation to reflect modern sensibilities.

AB...Akhil...DQ...and everyone else...your sense of patriotism is deeply appreciated. Whatever I've written in my posts was in no way meant to undermine anyone's national pride in any way.

For every issue, there is a view and a counterview. DQ's rhetoric in branding us a "RASTRAVADI" (make sure to notice the quote unquote) shows that he too is a replica of M M Joshi though at the other end of the political spectrum. Dude....you are forcing your view upon others just by calling them psuedo nationalists. All I did was to express my personal views on the national anthem. I said that I respect the anthem not for what its lyrics, content etc. are but because it is our national anthem and it was given that honour by a crop of people who I really respect.

The constitution gives me a right to have my own opinion about a person and his works. It was said by someone above that Tagore's patriotism is above reproach...but that's your personal view buddy.

And you need to define more clearly as to whose arse the posse wants to kick. Because if you start kicking arses according to the definition you gave, you won't be surprised to see your feet wearing out of the friction the kicks created.

the arse kicking is for the ppl who try to cause unwanted disturbabces by raising these issues just for the sake of achieving political motives.

Whoa HP stop... nobody said anything about your post. And Akhil is right.. we only meant to kick arse of the wrong kind of people. People who mean to divide India for thier own personal gains.

You can have your opinion.. Yes you have the right to beleive what you beleive. But by the same token can't we express ourselves too.

I am sorry I didnt read your earlier post and now i can see how you could have misconstrued the whole kicking arse episode. But rest assured it was not meant for you.

This is a democratic country, everybody is entitled to their opinions. But we are all on the same side. :D lets not forget that.
