Political Compass - Which world leader represents your views

by marko » Thu Jul 29, 2004 5:03 pm

a test to see where you fall on the political spectrum, and which famous leaders were closest to representing your views.

http://www.politicalcompass.org/ (and click on "Take the Test")

What i like about it is that it doesn't deal with political views as left/right, as this produces some really stupid comparisons (yes, Gandhi and Stalin were both politically left, but there are obvious differences in their core beliefs).

Basically it is a two dimensional spectrum, with the axes being Social, and Economic. So while Stalin was extremely socialist, and Gandhi held socialist beliefs, Stalin was an Authoritarian, who did not believe in personal freedom, but Gandhi believed in the supreme value of the individual, putting them in different sectors of the compass.

(p.s. above is not my opinion, it's on the site)

my results are

Economic Left/Right: -6.25

Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -6.46

which means i'm a social liberatarian and economically leftist. This puts me between Nelson Mandela and the Dalai Lama, and means i would not ever be a credable leader of any country in the world (but i knew that anyway)

so what are your results? And is this what you expected?

(i just read the FAQ's and it's meant to be mainly used by people living in a western democracy, so keep this in mind)

My results:

Economic Left/Right: -1.38

Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -2.26

So I guess I am a Left-Libertarian... Not the extereme kind. Extreme left libertarian guys are Gandhi, Nelson Mandela and Dalai Lama. Wow :D

I guess I learned something about myself.

What did you guys think about the question, where they asked If parents should spank the kids to Discipline them?

the question wasn't if parents should, it was something like - Good Parents occasionally need to spank their children to show them the difference between right and wrong

also, its a statement, not a question.

Yes, it was statement but since you were asked to give your opinion on it.. it became a question of SORTS. And I said I Agree. I think that kids need to be spanked "sometimes depending on the situation" to show the difference between right or wrong.

You do something wrong, you have repurcussions.

yes, but does hitting them show them the difference between right and wrong? and is it good parenting? both questions for another thread perhaps. I don't know the answers as i don't have kids.

Alright here is my logic to this. Kids are always testing the grounds, thats how they learn. Sometimes they step into zones that they are not supposed to venture into. If the authority figure they look up to does not assert the fact that they crossed the line, they take it to the next level the second time around.

There is a time to talk to the kids and there is a time to be assertive. When you choose what option is what makes a good or a bad parent. Overkill on either sides is not good.

Personally, I think If my dad/mom wouldnt have spanked me and wouldnt have been tough with me for the "badmashis" I did... I wouldnt be where I am today.

my results showed i am a libertarian......
People are crazy, at times are strange. I am locked-in tight, I am out of range.
I used to care, but things have changed.
