After the Srirangam fire, the state government had ordered that proper fire-fighting system be installed in all public buildings. But, the school complex lacked such a system.

Thats terrible

All the school in India should atleast practice proper evacuation drills.

there wasnt even a Single fire extinguisher in that bldg. the exit staircases were extremely narrow -- and the school had just one entry/exit point. whats worse, all the kids were between 6 & 10 years of age!

too bad people wake up only after some thing this tragic happens.

i am totally against schools being built in small buildings/lanes......the kids deserve better. The least the govt. can do here is to make it mandatory for schools to have a safety standard which makes sure that incase of a fire the students a least get a reasonable chance of escaping. after all they are the future......

1 lakh compensation for the kids who died... money can be so pointless at times. i hope they have a proper investigation as to WHY fire safety measures where not taken in an area where a fire had taken place recently. this is the 3rd fire in TN in a year.

Invetigations in india lead no where. the fact is that the school wasnt following any safety norms at all.

Compensation for your injuries is understandable and called for. But how can anyone compensate human life? That too, little kids? :?: :!:

the govt, if at all it is of any use... should use this incident to become "once bitten, twice shy". schools all over india should be asked to provide safety certification and only then allowed to function

schools in India are given the certification on the basis that they "will add the facilities in the near future" which they never do
