Avatars again (yes i've done a search)

by marko » Fri Jul 16, 2004 3:38 am

In other DB's that i contribute to (read: spam) the avatars that people use seem to be a bit more abstract. I'm suprised here to see the vast majority here have "human" or vaguely human avatars.

My understanding of the word "avatar" is that it is connected with Hinduism, in that the various faces of the Hindu god/s are avatars, right? (i'm really not sure at all) I guess i always took it to mean an image that represents the essence of your personality.

So what does your avatar mean to you, and do you use it elsewhere?

Mine involved minimal effort, just a fractal image that i like, rotated (mandelbrot, can't remember the location) The full size image is below.

I guess the chaos imagery goes well with my personality

So you have a chaotic soul, huh? I think that avatar looks like a work of art. Its very pretty, with vibrant colors that are perfectly contrasting.

Why I chose my avatar is beyond me. I guess cuz it wasnt taken. So no story behind why I chose mine.

Im an office manager and I deal with in-coming and out-going calls, and my real name is not American obviosuly. My employer wanted a name thats easy for the customers and dealers to remember....a pretty lame excuse cuz my name isnt weird at all or hard to pronounce.

No problem. I dont care.

That was uver candid of you dude. I'll take this gesture as your support.

Others, just igore thef first few boring pages of the link and skip to pages 6 & 7. Explains a lot. The Mods with their big brother thumping attitude and me with my 'walking tall' style, standing up what is right. What the mods to me was a bona-fide case of oppression.

Are we gonna keep quiet to all this? You could be a victim to this one day!

Heard a funny story the other day, a friend of mine works in BPO, and they've just set up a new call centre in Bangalore. They were doing some test calls (the offshore guys didnt realise they were tests) and tried to deviate from the "script" to see how the guys would cope.

Anyhow, they asked the girl in Bangalore her name, and she said "Anne", then they asked her how to spell it, at which point she screamed, dropped the phone, and ran out of the office in shame (it was one of her first calls).

quite entertaining, and it least it wasn't a customer.

When I was looking through the avatar's page, I literally thought I was looking at a picture of my own eye when I came across my current avatar. The color and shape were very similar, so I chose it...............and thats it :)
