According to the new rules, holders of 'E' (traders and investors), 'H' (professionals), 'I' (journalists), 'L' (corporate workers), 'O' (people with particular skills) and 'P' (entertainers, artists, athletes) categories of visas will no longer be able to renew their papers in the US and have to travel to a US embassy abroad to be fingerprinted before their visas are renewed.

I would have to say to have been there is something that you would enjoy as well as help you in your future choices. The fact that you have been there (and pretty much any place outside of India) opens up so many more doors. Practical expericence far outplays theoretical experience in most situations (such as this).

May be, but on our terms, not theirs and that is the point CAD is making here.

The world is full of double talkers. But I don't think their choice counts as the truth.

Now that I look back at the thread...i didnt specify enough. Nothing against India. I have had a good time in some places and not such a great time in other places. My thinking on being in US was the fact that you do get an added attraction (once you've come back) from another country and apply for a similar job. the fact that most jobs are being out-sourced here proves that. HP wrote in PS about the fact that people try to put on an accent, but that's something that can only be accuired.

Not just about jobs but entertainment as well. I am not a loner and would rather have company when I go out. I have not found that here in Hyderabad....at least not yet. Yes there are places to go but not everyone would have the affordability.

Thats all. I have lived most of my life there and if someone asks do you plan to go back...maybe for my class reunions and stuff but not to live....i would rather see some other part of the world to broaden my experiences.

no doubt in that. International experience always helps in India...

if i feel that i can get a good opportunity there that wud help me financially and professionally i'd go to US or anywhere in the world for that matter. the problem with US is their arrogance that everybody wants to be there. so they do not mind behaving condescendingly towards us. if we refuse to go to US for a year or two...their corporates wud exert pressure on their govt and they wud be back pleading with us to return....look at their crazy visa rules now....

even if i go anywhere out of India, i wud prefer to go for a short term and return home in say 5 years. as Akash had pointed out it wud help me get a great break here. but i wud not like to settle in US for all the $$$ in the world....no way...

i rejected an Australian Permanent Residency (like a US Green Card) dammit...if i had wanted to reach US, that wud have helped me a lot

wow, CAD! thats pretty cool - rejecting ozzie citizenship. its "pretty" cool because of this incident:

one of my classmates here was living in a hostel cuz his parents are in another city. his Uncle happens to be my neighbor. once, my pal forgot his mobile at his uncles place. so he called me up later that evening and asked me to collect it from his uncle and bring it to college.

sure enough, i went to collect it. that haryanvi uncle turned out to be one of those extra-nice types, he insisted that i have some savouries and drink juice and leave. while i was sitting there, he was telling me his story. about how he had just arrived in dubai, and about how he had worked on several projects there. then he said "i put my children in an indian CBSE school here, and they have to learn hindi by force, so they're not doing well. we are all canadians now... we have a Canadian passport, u know! not indian. we can go to canada anytime we want.... and i'll go in a few years because i want my children to study there".

i felt like asking him why he had to Brag about being a Canadian.. but.... never mind!

You should've asked. I would have loved to hear him reply to that. There's this aunt of mine (my dad's youngest sister), who's in Toronto. Her family migrated to Canada in '81. She came here in 2001, when my grandmother was on her deathbed. My uncle (her husband) couldn't come then as he was holidaying in Scotland, where she was scheduled to join him after seeing my grandma off on her final journey. She talked to me once about migrating to Canada. I told her in very clear terms that I had no intention of forgetting my roots like she and her husband had. Needless to say, she hasn't talked to me since then.

By contrast, her daughter is a gem of a person. They migrated when she was barely 7 years old and she was brought up there. She never forgot the fact that she's an Indian and has always upheld Indian values. A small pointer to the difference between her and her parents. She quit her first job and used up all her savings to come to India to spend time with her grandma during her last days. A grandmother whom she has seen just thrice in her entire lifetime.

thats such a nice gesture... coming from a proper NRI (brought up abroad for most of her formative years). and you actually told your aunt that -- i can imagine how shocked she musta been!

i didnt ask that uncle because he was my friends uncle (dont wanna say anything to someone i dont even know), who had an ego the size of a hot air balloon... i decided to leave him where he was. maybe when he goes back to canada, and gets discriminated against by the whites, he may have second thoughts about the whole issue.

Family ties are strongest among Indians -- thats just one of the many Indian values.

As for Indians being the most racist of all humans, well.. every country has had its dark phase. A few hundred years ago, ships of native african would be transported to America for Slavery. England had its own feudal system. Fortunately, as you can see for yourself, education and social reformers have changed a lot of things in India.

If we were racist, would a Sikh be the Prime Minister and a Muslim the President of a nation in which 80% of the people are Hindu? The foundation of India has been laid on the principles of equality, and it has stuck to them.

yeah. at least here they're "showing off" as u say. in the US even that is not possible. the president and his running mate are always White. in Pakistan, non-muslims aren't given an equal opportunity to get jobs - or even play sport. danish kaneria managed to get through because of influence. and joseph john got through by changing his name to yousuf yohanna. in Fiji, they overthrew the PM in a coup because he was an Indian. in Israel, muslims are killed dime a dozen. in Bangladesh, lands of the minority hindus are usurped on a regular basis....... and so on..

in india, incidents like Godhra, Babri and Blue Star are "glamourized". its very unfortunate that such a tolerant nation is being painted in dark hues by the media and ppl like ZC. our president Dr. Kalam himself said something along the lines of "we indians have a pessimistic attitude towards everything... we concentrate on the negative aspect of things and ignore all the good stuff"

PS: only 3 days back, a Sikh was attacked by white gangs in New York.. and beat up severely.

There are thousands of castes.....whom do u marry dude....from ur own caste, them from ur own sub-sect......y are u so particular ?

I wud say, A sikh PM amd a muslim President is Glamourized !!

atleast in the other countries, they say directly....other not allowed....in India we say everyone is same for show-off and if u scratch the surface ...u will see the rot !!
