The movie is set in the near future which is supposed to be inferred from the very first dialogue. Alex tells us about the various things available in the posh Milkbar where he's sitting.

The Korova milkbar sold milk-plus, milk plus vellocet or synthemesc or drencrom, which is what we were drinking.

Another obvious reference to the future in the first few minutes is the Tramp's complaint about the death of law and order on the earth. He talks about "man on the moon and men spinning around the earth." Agreed that this had already happened at the time this movie came out, but the next sentence is "there is no attention paid to earthly law and order any more". One interpretation of that can be that man has colonized outer space and hence there are laws other than the ones on earth.

The damaged opera house represents a damaged civilization and also the electronic twist to the waltzlike music gives a futuristic and surreal feel.

Later as Alex and the Droogs drive down to The Alexanders, we canse their magnificent ultra-modern home. What one-reviewer calls "a monstrosity of futuristic architectural design".

Another dialogue which is a dead giveaway is from Alex's Probation Officer. He says
We study the problem. We've been studying it for damn well near a century, yes, but we get no further with our studies.

These few instances from the very beginning of the movie suggest that the movie was set in the future. While I admit that not all movies set in the future are sci-fi, this one certainly quualifies as sci-fi because of the infamous Ludovico Treatment Techinique which seeks to "wash the violence out of the brain".

I saw Lost In Translation yesterday. It was a movie worth all the accolades that were piled on it.

It wasnt a movie where the audience is a passive receptor. It required each member of the audience to bring in his or her personal experiences and slaps them against the backdrop of the Tokyo Megalopolis which results a psychadelia like feel to the whole movie.

Awesome work Sofia.

What'r Taalking??

Troy was a pretty decent film. Its a movie worth watching thrice atleast.

Once for the amazing battle strategies shown.

Twice for the amazing Hector vs Achilles battle

Thrice for the good solid role that Hector (Eric Bana) has.

Special mention to one particular dialogue in the film where Achilles talks about the Gods envying us because we are mortal.

Ahhhhhhhhhhh what a relief.. I was thinkin i was the only fool who saw it thrice... Someone who agrees with me... :)

Yea dude thats ma Fav dialogue in the film. :

Achilles : Let me tell you a secret, something they don't teach you in your temple. The Gods envy us. They envy us because we're mortal, because any moment may be our last. Everything is more beautiful because we're doomed. You will never be more lovely than you are now. We will never be here again.

Other special mentions :

Achilles: Myrmidons! My brothers of the sword! I would rather fight beside you than any army of thousands! Let no man forget how menacing we are, we are lions! Do you know what's waiting beyond that beach? Immortality! Take it! It's yours!

Odysseus : War is young men dying and old men talking. Ignore the politics.

Hector: All of my life I have lived by a code and the code is simple: honor the gods, love your woman and defend your country. Troy is mother to us all. Fight for her!
