i rate it higher than Main Hoon Na and Hum Tum. but it cud've been tighter n shorter.

Amitabh n Om Puri were wasted in small roles but they did great.

Jasz, the CBFC has no role to play in sending movies to the oscars. It is upto the producers to send in their films.

By the way, Indians should get over this fixation for the oscars. They are for English films and awarded by their filmfolk. There is only one category for a 'foreign language' film. When an Indian film gets nominated for the oscars, it is not going to be competing against English films but jap, german, spanish or italian.

Rainmaker, it is not country specific for 'allowing India to send 2 films'...

I think u got that wrong dude. I'm pretty sure it is a single organization (maybe not CBFC) which sends an official national entry to oscars. Last year they released a list of 5 movies. One of em was one of those sucky SRk flicks others were Armaan and gangajal (dont remember two others)

Absolutely agree with you there. People talk as if Lagaan was robbed of the Oscar when actually it was a miracle that it made it there.

Just saw Lakshya. Good one. The journey of an aimless boy is seamlessly interwoven with the main plot. Karan Shergill's character during the first half is a reflection of what so many of us go through post class 12 and even college! Of course the army convoy song etc was not really needed but then its a Hindi film yaar. Me thinks A Bachchan was kinda wasted.

Main Hoon Na and Lakshya? Puhlease. MHN was Farha Khan's way of saluting Dhanno and Company and the age-old Bollywood formula. Yeah MHN was entertaining (what with a sexy sari-clad Sushmita and all) but Lakshya was different.

Will post another teeny-weeny comparison once I watch Hum Tum..!! :-)

PS Would have probably wanted to post a lil more on the topic, but the review by someone pretty much sums it up.

which was?? just a nomination yaar.. in a country, with the film industry being one of the biggest in the world, only "3" movies have made it to the final nominations list.. no movie has won so far.. bluddy disgrace, i say!

Lagaan was a good movie alrite but the competition was much better

hain?? 70's movies used to be entertaining ma'am.. somethin which was totally lacking in MHN.. total bullcrap it was..

Bullcrap? Every other hindi movie redefines bullcrap! When I go to watch a Hindi film it is half expecting the usual song and dance routine, the usual make-believe world and some laughs. MHN lived up to that!! :-) Anyways most hindi films are to be watched with an empty head.

its rather sad that it didnt win the oscar but remember last year we sent devdas  and it didnt even make it to the top five list...not many indian movies have been able to achieve that....and to topit off v compete only in one section...

that fact that lagaan was in the top five competitors for the award is a good achievement....

wht does tht tell u?? its a shame that there such a dearth of creativity among our film-makers.. Devdas was a plain dumb movie.. too much histrionics n over-acting ..

the fact that lagaan was in the top five competitors for the award is a good achievement....

it was, but the yakkin abt it not winning coz its an Indian movie was somethin tht i hated..

year's best hindi movies .. havent watched many but, Munnabhai MBBS has my vote.. Khakee was good, Yuva was a disappointment, Lakshya..im still in 2 minds whether to watch it or no

it will take a big change in the mindset of the movie makers if they want indian films to win at the oscars....i certainly believe that they an do it.....the best example is lagaan...it appealed to one and all..it was entertaining....which proves that u dont need to make art films to win oscars...even plain entertainrs...with a good story line and direction can make india proud at the oscars
