There's been a post on guitarists earlier. So bringing this one up now. Which single rendition do you think is the best Guitar masterpiece ever?



I'm finding it difficult to choose between these....

are those the best u could come up with? looks like u havent heard much of the becker-friedman, tipton-downing, holt-runolt duos.

try to get hold of James Murphy's CONVERGENCE and FEEDING THE MACHINE. u'll prolly kno what solos are after listening to some good ol' murphy!

Dunno if they'll make top 5 and all, but I really like the guitars in "The Rime Of The Ancient Mariner" (Iron Maiden)...

Also, Toni Iommi in Iron Man...



For trivia buffs, this was the only Sabbath song that ever won a Grammy, considering that they pioneered a whole genre and all. Then, the winner was not the original one in 1968, but the version (live) in Reunion (of 1997).

Tony Iommi n the Maiden guitar-duo of Murray/Smith would definitely figure in the best guitar solos list...

almost all Maiden solo are played in the E minor scale...so therez nothing great about the Murray-Smith duo.



the Tipton-Downing duo is great because they started harmonizing and all that stuff.

i just meant that, while u may like those solos very much.. there's stuff out there, not metal.. in rock itself.. which is much better



for ex: Kirk Hammett has done much better than Unforgiven ..

Hammet's lead solo in 'Jump in the Fire' completely blew my mind the first time I heard it, which was seven years ago. I'd still rank it among the most mind-boggling solos ever.

i never understood the complexities in guitar playing for a very long time. But the first track that just blew the notes out of the window was a live version of Jimi Hendrix solo called "Machine Gun"!!! Frigging amazing!! The beauty of the electric guitar slowly opened itslef to me with lotsa classic stuff like Santana, Dream Theater, MegaDeath, Van Halen's "Eruption" and Robert Plant (do i have to say "Stairway to Heaven"?).

I must mention Brian May in a seperate category. His guitar pieces in almost all the Queen songs compliment Mercury's voice perfectly!!!! Queen songs with good guitaring that are not to b missed are:

"Brighton Rock", "In the Lap of the Gods", "Innuendo", "Was it all worth it" and "March of the Black Queen" to name a few ... As a fellow Queen-worshipper would put it, "Queen don't make songs man! They make ANTHEMS!" :!:

Santana's old stuff esp. from the 70's kicks ass.. now, its just bland n boring.. DT is synonymous with John 'rapid-fire' Petrucci ..blows my mind that guy.. Eddie VH is electric guitar-god.. Robert Plant's another amazing guitarist.. Brian May, havent heard much from Queen, but another innovative composer..



n Fiddler , IMO Kirk Hammett's best solos are in Master of Puppets, the album..
