Unforgettable movie quotes.

by Habitual Perfectionist » Fri May 21, 2004 5:30 am

There are a lot of quotes and lines in movies that have wit, wisdom, intensity, charisma and much more. Lines that we're never able to forget. Lines that make us love even the movie at times. Was wondering if a thread ever existed here on this. I haven't seen one, so putting one up. I know its not easy to select but I'd still like everyone to come up with their top 5 lines from movies. My favourite ones are :

English :

1. Don Vito Corleone (Marlon Brando) in The Godfather. This one was plain chilling (the combo of the powerful statement & Brando's delivery is unique and deadly)

Revenge is a dish that tastes best when its cold.

2. Major Shears (William Holden) & Colonel Nicholson (Sir Alec Guinness) in Bridge on the River Kwai. This one is pure management wisdom.

Major Shears: You mean, you intend to uphold the letter of the law, no matter what it costs?

Colonel Nicholson: Without law, Commander, there is no civilization.

Major Shears: That's just my point. Here, there is no civilization.

Colonel Nicholson: Then we have the opportunity to introduce it.

3. Samuel Norton (Bob Gunton) in The Shawshank Redemption. This one had me in splits for a long time.

I believe in two things. discipline and the Bible. Here you'll receive both. Put your trust in the Lord; your ass belongs to me. Welcome to Shawshank.

4. Morpheus (Lawrence Fishburne) in The Matrix. One line sums up the essence of the entire film. Powerful.

Do you believe that my being stronger or faster has anything to do with my muscles in this place? Do you think that's air you're breathing now?

5. And last but not the least, Forrest (Tom Hanks) describing the Vietnam war in Forrest Gump

We was always taking long walks, and we was always looking for a guy named Charlie.

Bollywood :

1. Bhavani Shankar (Utpal Dutt) to his daughter in Golmaal. This is the funniest line ever from Bollywood.

Tumhari shaadi usse nahi hogi jisse tum pyaar karti ho. Tumhari shaadi usse hogi jisse mai pyaar karta hoon.

2. Don (Big B) in Don. This one was a class apart. Funny, yet menacing. Happens when Don finds out about an informer in his gang and kills him. When asked why, pop comes the gem.

Mujhe uske joote pasand nahi aaye. (The informer had a bug in his shoe heel)

3. Veeru (Dharmendra) in Sholay. Rustic humor in full swing.

Tmhara naam kya hai, Basanti?

4. Ahuja (Om Puri masquerading as Yudhishtir) in Jaane bhi do yaaro. The entire scene is a laugh riot, but this dialogue takes the cake.

Arre hum bhi to Draupadi mein shareholder hain.

5. Paresh Rawal (Bajaj), trying to prove his credentials as Teja in Andaaz Apna Apna

Mai Teja hoon kyunki mera naam Teja hai.

From "A Few good men"

Colonel Jessep (Jack Nicholas' character)

Son, we live in a world that has walls. And those walls have

to be guarded by men with guns. Who's gonna do it? You?

You, Lt. Weinberg? I have a greater responsibility than

you can possibly fathom. You weep for Santiago and you

curse the marines. You have that luxury. You have the

luxury of not knowing what I know: That Santiago's death,

while tragic, probably saved lives. And my existence, while

grotesque and incomprehensible to you, saves lives.

You don't want the truth. Because deep down, in places you

don't talk about at parties, you want me on that wall. You

me there.

We use words like honor, code, loyalty...we use these words

as the backbone to a life spent defending something. You

use 'em as a punchline.

I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself

to a man who rises and sleeps under the blanket of the very

freedom I provide, then questions the manner in which I

provide it. I'd prefer you just said thank you and went on

your way. Otherwise, I suggest you pick up a weapon and

stand a post. Either way, I don't give a damn what you

think you're entitled to.

The way he delivered this dialogue.. unbelievable!!

Goodspeed:I will do my best.

Mason:Your best, losers always whine about the best, winers go home and **** the prom queen.

Goodspeed:Carla was the prom queen.*Cock the gun.*

I've made the most important discovery of my life. It's only in the mysterious equation of love that any logical reasons can be found. I'm only here tonight because of you. You're the only reason I am... you're all the reasons I am.

Perhaps it is good to have a beautiful mind, but an even greater gift is to discover a beautiful heart.

One of my fav. movie lines is the one said by Burl Ives as the character Big Daddy in Cat On A Hot Tin Roof : " Truth is pain and sweat and paying bills and making love to a woman you don't love anymore."
Things are supposed to happen the way they happen. And the reason they happen the way the happen is because you try to make them happen in a certain way and may or may not be succesful.

Azazel, I love the movie The Usual Suspects! Especially the last scene, when he walks away...

Live fast, die young, leave a good looking corpse.

As long as people are still having premarital sex with many anonymous partners while at the same time experimenting with mind-expanding drugs in a consequence free environment, I'll be sound as a pound!

How come no one's Star Wars?

C-3PO: I do believe they think I am some kind of god.

Han Solo: Well, why don't you use your divine influence and get us out of this?

C-3PO: I beg your pardon General Solo, but that just wouldn't be proper.

Han Solo: Proper?

C-3PO: It's against my programming to impersonate a deity.
