The Dumbos that we Indians are..

by Arch » Wed May 19, 2004 6:54 am

"Oh, she is great. She is selfless. She sacrificed her rightful position for the good of our country. Its such a pathetic state that the entire Gandhi family is in. shame on us Indians that we are making them undergo what they are undergoing today. Theirs' had been such a patriotic family where the Great Grandfather Motilal Nehru, Jawaharlal Nehru, Kamala Nehru, Indira Gandhi, Feroze Gandhi, Sanjay Gandhi, Rajiv Gandhi have laid their lives for our country, for our Independence (those of them who have died just because, who cares? they died, right?) and here we are, with such petty minds !

Not allowing a true leader to take her rightful post, inspite of being a foreigner, who has so selflessly served our country all these years, yatta,yatta,yatta..", tears rolling down our faces and feeling sorrowful and all.

being the incorrigible-senti-Indians that we are, How many of you all wud raise ur hands for such a reaction ? atleast a pitiful slightest of the thought ? Cross ur heart..

I raise my hand..

When I read Sonia cud become a PM, it appalled me that we could not find one single leader from such a large population. When I read that she may not, I was elated for our country. A wee bit sad for her and her supporters, a senti that I am at times., as some of us get to be.

I read that there are hundreds of supporters in tears and all? at 10 janpath rd? Their reaction combined w/ mine made me think how the political dynamics are gonna work. hence this thread on possible 'misplaced' sentimentalists.

No, I did not, akhil. Oh, they may, one fine day project her as a freedom fighter too.

our TV coverage is one of the things that I miss here in California :( more so during such times ! There is that yearn to be a part of our day to day lives back in hyd, at times. homesick, y'kno :)

I have to make do w/ reading whatever is projected by the main stream media ! I read somewhere on these posts that NDTV is a little more balanced in its reporting, though ?

NDTV and balance??? Let me put it this way. If NDTV is balanced, then so is a see-saw seating one person.

NDTV is not balanced...there is a pronounced pro-congress tilt. AAJ TAK and Star News are pro-BJP. i think only ZEE News and TV9 (telugu) are unbiased. they either condemn everybody, or report with a neutral tone...like Indian Express!

try http://www.NDTV.com for its news. its updated regularly.

Dunno about Zee News or TV9, but if you want news as it happened without any masala attached to it, switch to apna DD. Might be old, might be archaic. But still reports without bias.

Speaking of the topic of this thread, I don't think we Indians can be unilaterally credited for being dumbos. We are not alone. The Americans are with us. How else do you explain George Bush???

Hey, thanks akhil, ctrl, zc, lucifer for ur suggestions. Blues such as these when I get for our hyderabad, I inevitably get the touch of thoughtfullness from u guys. w/ or w/o ur knowing, u have the capacity to give. :D

For my India news I usually go for my reading at http://www.samachar.com

I think it has most major newspapers' coverage from the Hindu, TOI, Telegraph, NDTV, Rediff, Pioneer etc etc to BBC and CNN . oh, yeah, even DC

It is amusing to see headlines in the same page, about the same issue put in opposing emotional/political overtones.

btw I guess, everybody is biased.

BBC, CNN, Foxnews, MSNBC, and a lot of other national and local channels here in bay area .. I think belong to either conservative or liberal groups. No in between, to my observation.

I think, those of media which are not in 'my' stream of thought will surley be biased,

in my eyes :)

NDTV is surely pro congress. after SG read out a translated version of her 'renunciation' speech the lousy news reader said...every body blames her for not having proper hindi and here she is speaking fluent hindi!!!!!

if her hindi is fluent then I am a scholar.

I think ZEE is pro BJP. DD news is a lot more balanced than the others I guess thats why not many people watch it.

really? i thot Aaj Tak was strongly pro-BJP. Anyway Zee News specializes in investigative journalism, maybe thats why they appear neutral to me.

This is why private news channels hype and sensationalise news items. There are not many takers for unbiased reporting as the fate of DD tells us. Who is to blame then for prejudiced news channels? Us, right?

thats true to some extent. but DD has not moved with times. though they earn alot more money than any other news channel. they dont seem to be using it very well.
