by strange co-incidence that late switch of loyalty happened when her hubby was about to become PM...

8) 8) 8) Or probably, they never felt the need since she had, for all practical purposes, settled down here but went and got it once RG was to be PM coz they feared someone like you questioning his loyalty to the country what with a foreign wife....

com'on man... don't we all postpone getting our ID cards till the very last day... does it say anything about our sincerity towards the nation??

...so that she can flee to Italy whenever she felt uneasy here? remember she did that too.

naturally. actually the Intelligence agencies adviced him to "make" her an Indian so that atleast questions about security leaks can be avoided. remember that they themselves had a bad time with her.

since when did our getting an ID late become a prestige issue for the country? If we get our IDs late, we pay the penalty for it. she got her Citizenship (the ultimate ID) 15 years late and is being "penalized" with prime ministership.

Don't you think that's a serious allegation to make against a person... to question one's loyalty to a nation?? Had there been a shred of doubt in anyone's mind don't you think parties like BJP would have made it a big issue by now... intelligence agencies would also not sit tight and watch her become PM if her loyalty was doubtful. Its not a trivial issue we are talking about when we talk about loyalty, right!!

You don't like a foreigner taking up PMship. Period. Lets just stick to it...

I was talking about how we normally procrastinate.... in all kinds of paperwork...

And about "prestige issue"... SG's citizenship would not have become a "prestige issue" had the couple not been forced to step into "political limelight".
You don't like a foreigner taking up PMship. Period. Lets just stick to it...
thats what i am sticking to. a Foreigner's mind n conscience is always loyal to own native country. dont we expect people of Indian origin settled abroad to be loyal to their Indian heritage? the same case applies here too. if she were a normal citizen, it wudnt've mattered much. as a PM, it matters
...SG's citizenship would not have become a "prestige issue" had the couple not been forced to step into "political limelight".
exactly my point. if she were not trying to rule us who gives a rat's arse what she likes or doesn't like?

1. That does not mean she won't get attached to a place where she's been living... she's in saree always, for heaven's sake... even "true" Indian Bahu's don't wear sarees these days unless its somebody's wedding.

2. I don't think she can survive in India for so long if her conscience hasn't taken to Indian citizenship. I don't see the possibility of her staying back in the hope of becoming a PM.

CAD wrote:dont we expect people of Indian origin settled abroad to be loyal to their Indian heritage?

Do we??? Really?? Besides, "heritage" is a big word man.

CAD wrote:if she were not trying to rule us who gives a rat's arse what she likes or doesn't like?

Again, we are in a parliamentary democracy....no body 'rules' us.
Everytime someone says 'rules us',i feel like using sushma swaraj's expression... mera atma samman mujhe jhagjhoretha hai... :D

she knows she cant lead a good election campaign in jeans or skirts :D but why make clothes a sign of Indianness?

no, that was the congressmen's collective idea of survival. she had to stay back coz of her wealth. why go back to an obscure middle class life in Italy?
Skeptic wrote:Do we??? Really??
yes we do. we constantly remind them of their Indian heritage and how they have to help their motherland and respect its culture. nothing wrong in it, but it becomes a liability if those persons of indian origin try to rule the nation where they are settled.

There's no way we can prove it either way unless u can come up with a way to see thru her brain or hypnotise her or perhaps she slaps a defamation suit against you

I really would respect Sonia G. if she would stick to her decision of not being the PM.

the congress party workers should work as extras in bollywood.. they seem to be good at staging a drama. statements like "only sonia gandhi can lead us" .. show how intellectually bankrupt our nation has become. :x

i generally dont watch an event on TV (except cricket) for more than 1/2 an hr. but yesterday i watched the happenings at the central hall for a good 2-3 hrs non stop. it was damn interesting.

the way the congress people showed there opportunism was worth watching. right from kapil sibbal to the last guy...every body tried there best. not to convince SG to revert...but to show there congressian brain to the people. they openly said the the whole country wants her to be the PM.

the whole countyr?????

all the congress allies fought congress to win the elections. congress has only 140 seats on its own. and the bastards shouted the whole country wants u to be the PM. What a shame.

spot on

by the rainmaker » Wed May 19, 2004 4:06 pm

yeah.. what people tend to forget is, congress got just 145 seats.. a mere 27%. out of those, a majority were anti-incumbency votes (Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat). and not votes for Sonia like they like to believe.

moreover, congress suffered HUGE losses in Kerala, Karnataka, Punjab, Rajasthan, Bengal, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Chhatisgarh etc. What does it have to say about those states? In fact.... it fought against the Communists in kerala and got just ZERO seats. goes to show just how much the people want sonia to be PM.

Caught snippets of the sudden turnaround on the telly.

Man! I was bemused by the bufoonery. (Renuka Chowdary's 'emotional' speech/ threats of suicide/ lots of begging, pleading, imploring)

Mr Singh's got a rough path ahead. What remains to be seen is whether he'll be a puppet in her hands or whether he'll hold his own.
