But if NDA is out, then the post should be definitely Sonia's. MMS maybe an expert, but I doubt if he could be a leader and hold the house together. Sonia has done that, can continue to do it.
This is discounting the 'foreign origin' factor, about which I have no issues. Let the best person rule......... (Just wondering, we attained some respectability in cricket only after hiring a phoren coach. And the 'sons of the soil' weren't too hassled about the fact either, but were busy celebrating the victories of 'our' Indian team. Why do we have this reservation then about letting a caucasian lady to lead the nation? Why are people on the sidelines like MMS propped up for the PM's chair? Is it racism or gender-bias???)

start learning Italian faaast.. second language declare hone waali hai.. lol
i dun care if she takes over as PM, as long as she does her job well

The "not fluent in hindi" argument goes for a toss as we've even had Presidents who have not been that fluent in Hindi (Radhakrishnan, VV Giri, Sanjeeva Reddy, Venkataraman).
The point is if Sonia has the qualities that the PM of a nation should have. Is she a statesman like Nehru? Is she an honest selfless leader of the masses like Shastri? Is she the shrewd politician that Indira was? Is she as forward looking like her late hubby? Does she have Vajpayee's Mr.Clean image? I hope everyone would agree with me that these are the qualities we all would like to see in our PM. Bottomline - Sonia is just not the right choice.
Who else then? Manmohan Singh? As mentioned earlier, he would be more useful as the FM. Mulayam Singh Yadav? Sharad Pawar? I would never like regional satraps in the PMO. Rahul Gandhi? Too young and more so, inexperienced.
We need to look beyond the obvious. We need someone who is equally acceptable by congressmen as well as allies. Someone who has a first hand experience of all that the job requires. Pranab Mukherjee anyone? He's held important portfolios like Finance, External Affairs, Commerce etc. He's an experienced parliamentarian. He's been into national politics and is not too much of a regional man. He is well educated and is an articulate speaker. Unfortunately, the congress has always been a party full of sycophants and supporters of the dynasty. Its more or less certain by now that Sonia would be the new PM. How I wish the congress could get even a semblance of sense at this crucial hour.

Habitual Perfectionist wrote:This happened sometime in late 2003 or early 2004. check supreme court of india judgements sonia gandhi on google and you'll also know when.
Habitual Perfectionist wrote:True...but my point is - knowledge of a language shouldn't be the criterion for deciding the merits of someone as the PM. I'm fully against Sonia being the PM but not for her linguistic abilities.

LP_Fan wrote:Good point. Now I am with you.But I heard on an other post that she is a dual citizen of both India and Italy. What do you think about that?I think she should forfeit her citizenship of Italy.
