I personally dont believe in any baba-waba, and I mean no disrespect to any baba in particular. Every guru has been controvercial, OSHO, Satya sai, ISKON and other cult figures, specially the ones who produce rings and lockets out of thin air. I guess people have now become educated to question the hocus-pocus.

But what is nice about these gurus is that in the name of clout they do a lot of good for needy people, for a price ofcourse. You have to believe in them and bow down to them. I may not have all the facts correct and I am not saying I am always right.

But I have only heard the bad part, I would like to be educated about the good part of these gurus.

I have read some books of OSHO Rajeneesh and visited his ashram in Pune and USA, so I can talk about him. His message is convoluted at times but he does make some of the times. I dont recommend him as a guru, but he is an interesting read. His oratory is awesome, I like the way he speaks.

Well...his supporters point out to the fact that he has helped the community so much through charity. They cite the setting up of schools, colleges, hospitals etc. as reasons enough to respect him. Whenever I hear such arguments...I tend to remember those hindi movies where the samaritan is revealed to be the main villian in the end.

I'm not making a case against sai baba per se - this is very generic. All I want to say is that we should respect humans as humans only and never equate them with God. Do we respect everyone who has set up schools, colleges & hospitals as BHAGWAN? Do we keep their photographs framed and hanging in our puja rooms? Do we attend their birthdays in such huge numbers and chant their glories? I'm sure none of us does. Why is a commoner like us provided Z-level security paid from our pockets? Why do we need to bow down in front of someone who has never done anything to get that respect?

Someone mentioned in the Passion of Christ thread that Mel Gibson cashed in on the insecurities being faced by Americans today. Haven't these self-proclaimed godmen been cashing in on our insecurities since time immemorial?

I know I would surely raise a lot of shouts and flames with this post...but then..this is what I feel. I would like to end this with a thought that has always governed my actions and reactions towards such people. Religion should always be controlled by reason. God has made us in a way that we have the power to distinguish between right and wrong; good and bad. We should exercise that power that God has vested in us with a lot of trust.

Before we pre-judge these gurus. Lets hear both the sides. Anybody here who can speak up for the Guru(s).

I agree with Habitual.. Religion is a personal deal. And god is a personal phenomenon. Maybe we dont need these brokers between us and god.

Thats how I see baba's... Brokers between GOD and me. Maybe I dont need someone to tell me how to reach my GOD. I dont need to see through someone elses eye's(metaphorical) what god is. This will only be an interpretation of some ones idea of god. I need to find GOD in my own way, on my own terms, without blindly following someones words. So I can truly understand what it means to reach GOD.

Maybe I will fail, but atleat I will try and that is what I beleive is important.

I personally think all the stuff he does is BS.As CAD said, there is nothing satya about him  .But some of the people like him because I heard he is doing some good to people(Irrigation and canals  ,which are no use to use but usefull to farmers,I dont know how true this is.

I also heard that one time some of his security gaurds just came into the open and shot 3 people from different parts of the temple  .They later told people that the men they killed were naxals. That was crap(of the finest kind). They had no right to shoot those guys.Who has the guts to go against him,our CM and PM are like his lapdogs. :)

(Dis)Believe On Your Own!

by Happy Hyderabadi » Fri May 07, 2004 10:30 am

I have seen in one Family ... The Elder Brother, a State Level Person, is a Believer of SSB ... His Generation-Away Younger Brother, Special in his own way, is anti! Both have their Reason / Experience. So (Dis)Believe, based on Your Own Reason / Experience. The Ideal is to think that You are God / Guru / Shishya ... But the Majority Experience Suggests that You Seek an Example and then Follow that ... for the Simple Reason that being Young You Will be Guided by Your Strong Feelings, rather than by any Logic! Any Day Be Wise, Be eWise!

Well I agree woth most of the people here that Satya Sai Baba is a fake.

Some years back Newstime, a daily from Eenadu published photos exposing how he gets those gold chains from no where by flashing his hand in the air......one of his servants was shown carrying it under a tray....but the supporters, most of them educated, actually defended him!!!!

theres also this story of a few of his supporters who found out his truth and wanted to kill him. So they landed up at one of his aashrams after climbinng a wall....when they were abt to enter the ashram the security guards shot them down.....instead of calling the police.
People are crazy, at times are strange. I am locked-in tight, I am out of range.
I used to care, but things have changed.

i thought that may be supporters will come up but instead not a single supporter came. may be its like no body seen ghost but in the dark u gets afraid of ghosts.

Personally i don't want to but my family members and people around me pressurises me to start believing it. I heard so many stories and people around me no matter how much educated in 2-3 months they find time to go either to tirupati or shirdi.

Nyway its only trust which can make a stone or a person God. but because of those persons we shouldn't get fooled. Hope by reading these posts my family members understand few things.

Faith is a very personal thing. It is like some people prefer tea and others prefer coffee. Who are right?

There is no answer to a question of that nature. It does not matter whether the person in question is a fraud or not. What is important is whether he is able to commit people to leading a pious lifestyle and doing good deeds.
Nothing travels faster than light with the possible exception of bad news, which obeys its own special laws.

Some random thoughts:

- Don't get conned by magical acts.

- Unexpected coincidences do happen. Keep your faith. God's actions, if he exist, could be through common people like you and me

- There is nothing wrong in having a 'guru', if you are spiritually inclined. But recognise that they are human too. Don't you look up to your father or such? In spite of the fact that your father could have his faults (replace father with whatever)

- HH talked about searching. Please do, but recognise that assisted searching could make it easier/better
