the best baakarwadi was the one that someone got from ahmedabad

but considering that gujarat is where baakarwadi actually comes from that is not very surprising

i used to think so too

but then i had a gujju friend who claimed that it ws gujju. n considering my limited knowledge of both communities i had to concede defeat.

u cud still prove my friend wrong! there'd be no one more thrilled than me

Analysis 1: as far as my limited knowledge of Marathi goes, "Baakar" is marathi word for a type of grain (jowar?) which is used to make rotis.

ergo.........

Re: Bhakarwadi

In one of Travels, I was passing through Mandai / Phule Market (like our Monda Market) / Budhwar Pet Area ... I found myself being stoppped and snared by a Serpentine Queue (Puneites Q up for anything and everything, I found) into the Famous Chitale Bandhu HQ (Sweet Shop, more noted than Our GPR) around 10 AM ... All for their "Hot Hot" Bhakarwadis & "Sweet Sour" Srikhand ... I could only manage a piece or two and a small cup. They were the Original, I was told. The Gujarati Srikhand is White and Tastier!

In Hyderabad, we get Srikhand from Mahalakshmi of Kutbiguda but can only be called "Duplicate" and we do get "Imitations" of Bhakarwadi at "Almond House" at Himayatnagar - Liberty Road and the ubiquitous "Balajis".

that sounds like some sort of a sweet.. so, if it is , i want some too

infact it is not a sweet. it is a bit khatta meetha and looks like a spring role (the similarity ends there), and FYI pune ki bakarwadi is more popular.....ask for chitale bandhu. agar mein kabhi pune gaya aur fullhyd ki meet bhi hone waali hai to zaroor laaoonga :)

I wld say it is maharashtrian dish. b`coz there r several gujju mithai walas near my house and none of them sells bakarwadi. i guess giftee will be happy to hear that.

Baakar (or Bhakar) is the marathi word for Jowar roti. but i am not sure as to why bakarwadi is called so.
