by Mona Lisa Smile » Wed Mar 17, 2004 3:08 pm

Do we have any groups/clubs out here (in Hyd) that organise/conduct competitions in Scrabble (or even play it for fun)?

all it takes is for a few more to express interest - and bingo - we've got a small scrabble enthusiasts group started! barista has a board - so all you need is a way for folks to hook up to play!

by asli_badmash » Sun Mar 21, 2004 10:42 am

Reminds me of my childhood...

I am not great at it, but I remember some of the best times I have had with friends was while playing scrabble... The petty fights... People inventing words.. It was fun.

Let me know if any of you guys are getting togather. I am in...

Yahoo Games has its online equivalent called Literati. Jus need a Yahoo ID and a steady net connection (one that doesnt disconnect for a few hours) and you're all set to play Scrabble / Literati with anyone in any corner of the world. Howz that for doing it from the comfort of your desktop?

Regarding my personal experience with Literati, i've lost all the matches that i've played so far with my online pals. I must be too dumb :(

I used to be a major scrabble freak as a kid for about 2 months, during which period I learnt whether or not a word existed depended just upon how desperate you were at that point. Yahoo! however refuses to take "Yes" for an answer, unlike my kid sister.

 i know wat u mean! i used to be at my creative best, coining new words and insisting they exist! i usually had my way since i was considered to be 'good' in English...

at the Yahoo games site i usually play TextTwist. i think this wud help a lot in scrabble since in TextTwist we have to extract as many words as permitted from a given set of letters..in a limited timeframe. try it out...its very interesting.

Hey ppl you could count me too.

Yes the game was real fun as kids and still is.

Text Twist is also pretty good esp for the like who are good at anagrams.

I have checked out Literati but there was this game a few years back called Yahoo Word Racer. I was hopelessly addicted to that one. It had a speed factor also. Wonder if its still there ?

Yes, I agree - your English is indeed bad :). You really should have edited that sentence on the invitation card...

Barista is def a nice place for a meet but there are only two Scrabble boards. Besides some of these game boards have real old tiles you prolly cant differentiate from an E and an F or a P from a B ...

Not that these are major bottlenecks for those who have a zest for the game ... of course suggestions are always welcome.

hey i'm new to this board n definitely interested in the scrabble meets

like quite a few of u, scrabble holds childhood memories 4 me as well - the only problem there being that my bro wasn't as kind as PMoW's sis'.

but 4 me my word was the final word (actually that worked only in scrabble, cos i owned the game). So i did what any sane sibling wud - i played alone!

n believe me - i always won!!

so i'm up for a battle of wits, words, whatever u may wanna call it!

i haven't played it online n Text Twist sounds a lot like this other game - Boggle - another one of my favs - anybody heard of Boggle?

mebbe i shud start a new topic on that - who knows i might jus get a reply!
