Moving/Shipping to Hyd, India

I need help.



I am moving from US to Hyd, India for a year. I wanted to ask people here the following questions.



- Has anyone here moved(I mean lock stock and barrel) from US to Hyd before ?



- How can I ship my personal items ? I talked to FedEx, but they dont ship till HYD, they only ship till Bombay.



- When I ship my personal items like (Clothes(used), books), do I have to pay customs on it ? How much ?



- What happens to my computers(used) when I ship them from US. What kind of customs is levied on computers ?



- What kind of customs is levied on Stereo equipment ?



I need info quick. So please Private message me if you can help me with some numbers or people I can call to get this done.

Regarding customs duty on ur belongings, there is a upper limit on the total cost of items you are going to bring along depending on how many years you stayed overseas. If you lived for more than 3 years, then you can bring goods worth several thousands of dollars without having to pay duty. I dunno how many is 'several'.

Search for Indian customs on net. Most of the info will be out dated, but that will give you an idea. Import rules are relaxed these days.

to ship, ship is better, they will reach ur door step (may be u have to collect from ur nearest post office, coz postman only has a bicycle ) , takes 3 months from US to India and is some 3 times cheaper. insurance u can do.........
