Although I won't assume that you are as a voracious reader as I [I kid you not], atleast you have a favorite book you never tire of.



Mine range from RK Narayan to the classic Greek Myths and Sci-Fi, Thrillers.

I'm reading LOTR the fifth time over at the moment. That would definitely feature near the top of my all-time-favourite list. Nothing's been able to beat Asimov's 'Robots and Empire' yet, nor James Clavell's 'Shogun', though Douglas Adams' 'Hitchhikers guide to the Galaxy' trilogy (?) and Pratchett's Discworld come close due to their sheer comic brilliance.

Used to love Stephen King. Haven't been able to read much over the last few years. These days, I find Bhagavatam by Kamala Subramaniam very interesting. 'It' by Stephen King is a must-read.

Vincent Bugliosi - Helter Skelter[The Events of the Trial n Conviction of the Notorious Charles Manson n His Band of Murderers]

One of my favourite writers of all time is Michael Crichton and his book Timeline was mind blowing. Even his latest book, Prey was an absolute delight to read. My favourite book is What Dreams May Come by Richard Matheson.

R.K.Narayan is my favorite indian writer.His books like guide,painter of signs,bachelor of arts are veru good.But i find his"Mr.Sampath,printer of Malgudi" to be my dearest.



Besides,Agatha christies' books featuring poirot(best of the lot is "Murder on the orient Express") and Colin Dexter's featuring Morse are also good pastimes though of a diiferent genre.



Tried my hand at reading classics,but couldn't cling with them.

Fiddler, LOTR? I haven't the time to start on it but I think I can call myself LOTR movie fanatic...Watched each perhaps 5-7 times? And all the extended stuff on the DVD, Peter Jackson needs some shoes.



Kishore, Narayan is my Indian favorite too! My summers took place in the world he so lovingly potrays! Stephen King, I read the book and watched the movie twice! Scary as hell... That author is psycho.



Agatha Christie? Oui, oui, mon. But, I used to read Sherlock [ages ago] so I did not get to read Poirot.



Rain!, I agree To kill a Mockingbird is the best, it was the most tearful ending sniff sniff



Rock_26iin, I have watched more Crichton movies than read his stuff but once in a while I will browse through his collection.



Azazel, you seem like a sci-fi/thriller/detective fan! Except S.King & Grisham, I haven't heard of the others you posted but will read the ones on your list since I have phases and right now I want Sci-Fi.



As for being specific, I just wanted to know what you guys dig. As of now, I finished Ender's Game [it's brilliant!].

I am reading the DragonLance series by Weis & Hickman but I am getting sick of the whole hero saves the world routine.

Am waiting for Sara Douglass new book coming out soon. The TROY Game series, if you are interested. She intwines Greek - Pre-Celtic - Actual history and spins it into a darn good story.

Was really glad to read up all the responses so far. Now I know how much more i need to catch up on my reading Life has become so office/work oriented that my reading habit has taken up a back seat. Anyway, the book in my hand these days is Kahlil Gibran's The Broken Wings[/quote]. The book is about the sad ending of his first love. I have never read Gibran before so dono if it his regular style but in this book he definetely makes the reader take a flight of fantasy. I like his imagination and often find myself amused by the choice of words. He speaks extensively on love in this book. To quote him..



"Love is the only freedom in the world because it so elevates the spirit that laws of humanity do not alter its course."

" Love is the offspring of spiritual affinity and ..........is created in a moment."

Johnny, you're right! I own the Godfather and probably read it about 6 times.

Rumi - I browse through Essential Rumi some times, most of it is pretty deep but I do get some of it in bits and peices.

One of my favorite books is "An Area of Darkness" by V. S. Naipaul. Hardly anything I've ever read matches it perceptiveness about India. For a book written in the early 60s, it is amazing how much of it <em>still</em> rang true in the late 90s when I first read it.



"The Selfish Gene" by Richard Dawkins, this time in science, is another great read.
