With LOTR coming into town soon...Iam really looking forward to see the movie,I really don't think that anybody else would have presented Tolkien any better.
And Iam actually looking forward to read the 6th book of the Harry Potter series,loved the Order of the Phoenix.
Errr... I'm actually quite zapped to see JK Rowling and JRR Tolkien talked about as if they're in the same league. Don't get me wrong, I'm quite fond of Harry Potter. I just don't think Rowling is a patch on Tolkien. Then again, that 's just my opinion. Also, I think I preferred '... Goblet of Fire' to '...Order of the Phoenix'. I think Rowling tried a little too hard in portraying Harry as going through the pangs of adolescence. And the whole thing about Dumbledore crying in the end was a little... pathetic.
Dunno if anyone could have done better with the LOTR movies, but I definitely think they aren't great. The first part was pretty decent, I have to say, but the complete parody they made out of the second was really sad. I admit the battle scenes were superbly done, but central characters like Faramir and Treebeard were made mincemeat of! I know, I know, I've said all this in another board as well, but I just can't help saying it
SO, if the second part is anything to go by, and the horror stories I've heard about the third are true, I'm not going to pin a load of hopes on it.

Difficult question. I'm tied between Treebeard and Saruman (Saruman's just so consistently evil, and so scathing in his repartees, that you just can't help loving him

)
