Rahmans best has to be sangamam. Listen to the saukiyama number. Just experience it and you realise what GENIUSes are all about. It was after sangamam that I acknowledged ARR as God. Definitely ARRs best. A collectors piece. It amazes me that Rahmans career best is for a small budget Tamil flick.

If you ignore the fact that one of the numbers has been ripped off from dumadum mast kalandar, sangamam is THE WINNER of winners.

Dunno about Sangamam as yet.

But there's one thing about Rahman that I've seen people complain about(not me!) he's too sophisticated for the 'common man' to appreciate him,I mean you generally donot have Govinda dancing to Rahman(think about that)

Looks like unsophisticated Govinda fans like me have to settle for some one like Anu Malik, Bappi Lahiri or any other low life forms that exist in this planet. Sohphisticated ARR numbers lifted from MJ, Boney M etc, may not appeal to a 'comman man' like me, it looks like......

My 2 Cents

My favourite ARR song has to be Maa Tujhe Salaam. Why? Local bad Native Tongue covered it in Heaven's Bruise (in Passport) in August. A fantastic rock touch to it. You should've been there.

Sangamam is god level for tamil guys. Since i am a tamalian i can know what people talk about Sangamam. But the onlt problem with ARR is he treats lyrics as 'sounds' and buries in instruments. That was the problem with Vairamuthu and ARR, which is why they never worked together after Alaiputhey (or Sakhi in tel, the same Saathiya). Now ARR is a national treasure!

I predict a Grammy for him in the next 5 years. when that happens, please meet me for freebies!!

Music Review - ARRahman's Yuva

by vivek » Fri Mar 19, 2004 10:32 am

Guys! The audio of YUVA the new Mani Ratnam movie shot simultaneosly in Tamil and Hindi is on stands. The music rocks big time and i thought Rahman's Meenaxi was a show. The first number is the best - with Rahman shouting O YuvaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaAAAA(high pitch) aaaaa (low)aaaaaa(lower)aaahhhhhaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhh..is brilliant. The second number 'Anjana' - has a cristal clear redention by a new singer. The song varies from rock style to mild vocal with a natural touch ( i am sure what i mean by this!)

The third number is more Indian. Rahman joins here too! The fourth number is of the alternate under ground Talvin Singh type. One of those London Underground DJs pet scratch music. Not for Rahman afans, but ya will be a hit in ..well..London Underground music lovers fraternity..if you will! Blazee give some rap touch to it. OK type The next number has Adnan Sami and Alka Yagnik with a usual Hindi filmy sound. Guess this rather slow song will grow on you when you listen to it with Pakodas and Beer in a pleasant evening! The last number is Fana, with Rahman going Fanaaaaaa Fanaaa. Its one of those fast tempo Trance type (not trance though). Music for your car. Frankly, this time Rahman has not done that which he always does to Mani Ratnam movies. Rahman pathbreaking music is surely missing in this new movie. That 'Dil Se' or' Bombay' tempo is missing. Remember Dil Se Reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee....what as masterpiece...thats not here. However, for Rahman fans, Yuva rocks! Tamil guys, buy YUVA along with its Tamil Version. Telugu guys, wel you guys anyway get dubbed versions of any and everything. Have fun
