Yer damn right I was!! :) It was awesome... Asheem Chakravarthy's voice just blew me away!

But, a large part of the audience consisted of people who'd already heard and gotten used to their music. Maybe it wasn't the sort of concert which first-timers would've enjoyed, but I take consolation in the fact that this is probably the case with most groups that have developed a unique sound. To each his/her own.

Fiddler's right. I was a first-timer, and frankly, I didn't find them earth shattering news.

I read an article the other day about how the guys who organised the show (Society To Save Rocks) were not really "co-operative" with the press and all. As a spectator, I thought the show was crisply done. Wonder what's with the press...

Indian Ocean Kicked Butts

They were pretty awesome at their performance. People may not have liked them because they might be expecting some phast bass dj stuff over there. Well thats ur taste.

But Indian Ocean were great at performing what they are good at performing. Dont expect Bryan Adams to sing you do-re-mi here now.

Those guys are a unique kind in INDIA and they certainly deserve a cheer for that.

Doston u can mail on iocean@rediffmail.com and expect a reply.

And about that article, believe me - all that media needs is reason to create noise. And they got it.

Well, one of the volunteers wasn't as civil as we'd have liked, but that was no reason to paint everyone with the same brush. It seems like reporters put things in their articles that most of us would only gripe to our friends about. Strikes me as being a little childish. But at least we had a decent crowd: 1300 'aint nothing to sneeze at!

Indian Ocean

by mustt_mustt » Wed Jan 21, 2004 7:58 pm

After having spent two days with the band in Hyd (they are good friends and more importantly, very talented musicians), all I can say is that they had a blast in Hyd and were pleasantly surprised at the response they received in Hyd. They are keen on coming back to Hyd very soon. If their music is "bland and boring," then maybe listening to some firangi dj perform at one of the local pubs would offer a better alternative to the more musically discerning.

As for the organizers, they are a bunch of very committed folks who worked hard day and night to make the concert possible and if they were perceived as rude, I think we should definitely cut them some slack, given the hassles they went through to put the whole thing together.

Firstly, I never said that they were either bland or boring, somebody got my login mixed up with what I had said. Secondly, about the organizers, I think they did a good job.

Though, I need to add, they are not the only ones who organized a show, you know. Compared to the gigantic shows (like all the major college fests, who don't use event managers) that people organisze, this isn't even a grain of sand.

Whether they were rude or not, that allegation itself should not have crept in. It's a bad remark on the organizers, themselves.

I agree. We should remember that this was just one newspaper - generalizing this as the press, or even as "reporters", is unfair. This newspaper has never been known for being statesmanly. If you followed the Pavan Kalyan episode, you'll see how they use the paper to complain like schoolchildren against anything they do not like. "Teacher, teacher, he is pinching..." I think the pays for journalists should increase so that more competent and mature people are attracted.

I think the report succeeded in making one volunteer's behavior representative of the event as a whole. There must have been a colossal amount of groundwork and preparation behind the whole thing, and it was a great concert.

I Dunno, man. We had an incident with a reporter from the Hindu which was annoying. The gentleman in question demanded to be let in to the concert venue even though he had neither a pass nor any sort of identification. His excuse was that he'd 'left his press card in his scooter'. Needless to say he wasn't allowed in and, as a result, the Hindu refused to put anything about the concert in their paper. The same reporter had tried to interview the band the previous day without doing any sort of homework, as a consequence of which the band, perhaps understandably, was quite rude to him.

But, you're right. Just like the DC article painted all the volunteers with the same brush, so did my previous statement about the press. Apologies.
