Bias in Cricket

by Habitual Perfectionist » Mon Dec 08, 2003 9:18 pm

Talking of cricket, don\'t you feel that umpires & match referees are too partial against the teams from the subcontinent? Would Steve Waugh have been fined 10% of his fees for slow over rate?

Somehow England, Australia, New Zealand & South Africa (Read the white dominated test playing teams) always seem to get the better of the referee & umpires\' decisions. (Does Mike Denness, Virender Sehwag & Sachin Tendulkar ring a bell?).

With theIndian corporate sector contributing a lion\'s chunk of cricket advertising today, why doesn\'t the BCCI gain a strong hold on the way the ICC functions? Why can\'t India claim a Veto power on the ICC board?

The travails of the cricket management in India is another issue, which I would hopefully post sometime in the near future, looking at the response to this post.

You are aosolutely right.

There are a lot of circumstances where there was biasedness in Cricket.

Another example of this was:

On the first day of last test match in Sydney between AUS-IND, steve waugh couldn't get through his team's allotted 90 overs in time & took 44 extra minutes to finish the alloted 90 overs. Nothing has been heard from Match REferfee Mike Proctor.

There's something out of whack about this picture. A couple of Tests ago, the same ICC match referee was jumping on Saurav Ganguly like a ton of bricks, because the Indians had taken 20 minutes longer than allotted to complete their overs.
