Holy shit.. how can you name a pussycat after India?? Would he like it if I named my pet puppy as George W Bush? Of course my puppy may take offense to it and Manekaji might sue me, but then this man should have more respect for other countries. I guess I\'ll bring this issue in the debate competitions next week.

I think \'India\' is one of the names popular among latinos/south americans. i had seen amexican movie long ago where the heroine\'s name was \'India\'. there is also an American HipHop/R&B singer named \"India Arie\".

I feel there is no need to read much into the name of Bush\'s cat.
wtf? i no longer care if my posts hurt yr feelings

Bush's cat's name is India !!!

by Anil » Sun Dec 14, 2003 3:39 am

This particular cat’s name is willie India. In the USA it is very common to call the native Americans as Indians. When they say Indian it doesn’t mean us (we are called asian Indians or as Robbin Williams humorously differentiates in Good Will Hunting – Indians with dots and not feathers). As Arch and some others clarified, it could mean several other things. Most of the time, it’s this overreaction which makes even the most trivial incidents appear as dangerously important. It’s these knee-jerk reflex reactions which feed the archetypal stereotypes of a race, religion or a nationality. What’s this crap about freedom of expression in the USA while those indulging the same are caned and hosed in India????? God! Where does one get such (mis)information? And what freedom of expression are we talking about? How short is our memory to forget about Dixie Chicks, Susan Sarandon or Tim Robbins during the USA’s attack on Afghanistan and what about this incident where in the FBI was keeping track of all the all the Anti-American protestors in the USA. If there is any country which is a real democracy, then it is India. In the USA, the big brother is all always watching! Believe me, there’s a always a veiled threat and the yankee land is not such a “free” nation after all.

I mentioned this before also (in the board about rudeness) but I reiterate again. Agreed, everyone is entitled to have an opinion (it’s a free world after all, including India, though some of us have a different notion). But how sane it is to club any issue below the sky with one’s friend’s boyfriend’s sexual prowess? And what’s all this nonsense about bleeding on the nuptial nights? Again, my friend told me ;) Who needs BBC, CNN (no, I don’t even want to name any Indian news papers or agencies – because we will be skinned alive if we report any truth) when we have friends and their boyfriends – such valuable authentic sources. I remember a funny anecdote. There’s this “smart” kid who has an English exam and he has to write an essay. But his smarty has prepared for only one topic and that’s about a cow. When he goes to the exam, he is asked to write an essay each on aero plane, train and summer vacation. Here’s what he does for Airplane: “I was flying in an airplane, and from the window I saw a cow. The cow has four legs, it gives milk….” On the Train: “I was going in a train and I saw a cow from the window. The cow has four legs. It gives milk…..”. And lastly, on Summer Vacation, “In my summer vacation, I went to my village. There I saw a cow. The cow has four legs and so on”.

Let me also put something straight. Just because someone comes here on H4 (dependent) visa doesn’t mean there fate is sealed or they have to die as homemaker (or as house wife). NO, they can change to H1 or J1 or F1. No body prevents that as along as long as a company is willing to sponsor. So, PLEASE don’t attach any ulterior to motifs to anyone trying to get their spouse on H4. Most of the times, it is sheer practicality and issues related to immigration. And just because, one’s wife is staying at home doesn’t mean she is doing any menial job or her husband is subjugating her. She could be doing that purely by choice or she might not have any choice (because no company is ready to sponsor H1). In fact, I know several “house-husbands” here in the USA. Moreover, freedom or liberty of women doesn’t mean, they have to be doing a “job” – a conventional one. It’s the thought process that needs to be liberated. In any case, I personally feel, the toughest job is to be being a homemaker.

Unfortunately, this is all a result of being brought upon crass literature. Of course, every one of us has (or still) at some point in life have gone through a stage wherein we believe everything we read and everything our peers say (especially in adolescence) from our friends. But we need to outgrow it.

Lastly, I am aware that I have clubbed several issues here. I am guilty of being and indifferent or even lazy to go to each of these several topics and try to reason out. Nevertheless, I thought it was my solemn right to set the record straight and put some brake on this idyllic wallowing in the pool of blissful ignorance. And NO, neither I am the moral guru nor a prude but a staunch believer in facts; and facts from reasonably authentic sources.

Hey, Anil, after a long time. your post had been informative, interesting and intelligent too, as usual. So what if it does not pertain to the title of this board :) I felt the itch to react the same ways as u did at the attacks against you, but u did a good enough job, not as good as you could have been though. Way to go.

Freedom doesn’t mean just doing some outrageous stuff or being punk (pun intended)! Yes, you can color your hair or may be, go naked in US of America or indulge in a soul-kissing in a public place or get yourselves into a gay marriage! NO, I don’t find anything wrong with any of these except that they do give a cultural jolt for someone coming from a relatively more conservative milieu. Actually, you may do all of these in India too except that there would be too many raised eye brows and too many wagging tongues. Anyway, the freedom I was referring to or the instances of Big Brother watching were in a different context. Agreed, one of modern America\'s greatest virtues is freedom of speech. But dude, it\'s not quite as free as everyone once thought. I am sure you are aware of the post-Sept 11 scenario. Is it not true that quite a few Americans (including some of the celebrities I mentioned in the earlier post) were castigated for expressing dissenting views? They were told in no-nonsense terms that if you can\'t bleed red, white and blue (colors of American flag), then you better go bleed somewhere else. I don’t know whether you are aware or not of a late night talk show called \"Politically Incorrect\" hosted by Bill Maher. He called the U.S. missile attacks on Afghanistan \"cowardly.\" Although, Maher later apologized, he couldn’t regain the five or six stations which used to air his show easily. But Maher was lucky and did manage to keep his job. Not so fortunate were these two other columnists of two daily newspapers who were fired for criticizing Bush\'s handling of the terrorist attacks. Funnily, the publisher of one of these papers, in a vain attempt, to appease readers carried out an article entitled \"Bush\'s leadership has been superb.\" Don’t you find it funny or even unfathomable that on Sept. 10, Bush was fair game for ridicule; come Sept. 11, he was Saint George the glorious one? Ready to exterminate Osama, the Demon.

The academic institutes, the self-professed echelons of freedom of speech, weren’t spared too. Believe it or not, a library assistant at the UCLA (University of California at Los Angeles) was handed over a five-day suspension without pay – all for sending an email using a university computer disapproving America\'s support to Israel. In another incident, a University of New Mexico professor received threats after saying, on Sept. 11 that whoever blows up the Pentagon has his vote. Of course, he didn’t lose his job, because of a timely apology and \"confessing\" to being a \"jerk\" (sic). After all, the First Amendment to the American Constitution prohibits only government from interfering with an individual’s right to freedom of speech. Employers and others can apparently mess about all they want!!!! Of all nations, I found the freedom of speech more unfettered in Britain - more than either USA or India. I might be wrong.

YES, all these things happen in India too. And that’s exactly the point! America isn’t as tolerant or free society as it’s projected. And you just CAN’T do anything or say anything you want and indulge in day-dreaming of going scot-free. There’s definitely a line not to be crossed in the USA too! Alas, you seem to have not realized it yet. I am sure, you will, it’s only a matter of time ;)

Bushs cat

by asli_badmash » Tue Mar 16, 2004 1:34 am

Anil we understand your concerns.

But what has Bush's cat got to do with it. You think Bush receives commands from his cat (Like the Son of SAM, serial killer) to bomb places or ask his people to watch Tim Robbins or Susan Sarandon(both are hippies), or you go doody on your lawn. I dont think so... Its all paranoia.

But wait.. Imagine Bush sitting on his chair in the oval office and talking to his Cat..

Bush : "Here pussy... pussy.. what shall we do with the world today.."

India : Meown...

Bush : "say what... bomb Saddam."

India: Meeeeowwwwn

Bush : "I know it hurts... I know last time we were in Iraq his dog - Tariq Aziz - put a missile up your ass. We will ram this JDAM in Saddam's ass. Tell me which one do you want... the red one or the yellow one ? Red one is spicy it will burn his ass down. Tell me pussy... "

India: Meownnnn

Bush : "red it is"

With that Bush orders for full scale attack on Iraq.

Anil there is a time an place for every topic.

Bush named his pussy India. Vajpayee can name his dog Dixie... (If you get what I mean...)

As far as my knowledge goes, David Berkovitz never said anything abt recieving commands from a cat! He was a weak s.o.b who just went up to total strangers n shot them, just for kicks :?: :!:

Bush can kiss my Indian ass, from this day on i name all the stray dogs in town  Dubya
