Wah Wah Steve Waugh

Steve waugh has shown a positive sprit towards the cricket, in 1st test match at Brisbane on 8th Dec. He has done a right thing by declaring its team, at which India needed 199 in 23 overs. The outgoing captain has set a good example for the other captains that the test matches are not mean for a Tame draw, Especially sri lankans should learn a lot from him with whom lots of matches are drawn with every country and has a habit of making record numbers etc..like 800, 900 etc. The Austrialians are not at all interested in draw matches, They just want results, even its an win or lose.

Well...if you call a target of 199 in 23 overs attainable..it sure would have been a positive move. I\'ve been watching Steve Waugh from the time he really shot to fame (Reliance World Cup, 87) and have seen him grow as a player (from patchy to world class) and nosedive as a sportsman (from decently fair to a complete exponent of gamesmanship).

Steve Waugh knew that from this position, they cannot lose the match at all (read India doesn\'t have a fair chance to win). And he does have more than a fair chance to win. Hence the declaration.

Let me make it very clear that I am not in favour of the Indians being the timid bunch they are. They are a classy team on their day but they do get cowered down very easily. The team is showing a positive trend over the past few months and thats an encouraging sign. The team is getting tough and the way they\'ve played in this test from Day 2 onwards has been very good.

coming back to Steve\'s decision, I would term it at best as an aggressive discussion but by no yardstick is it a sportive decision. Sportsmanship in Australia Died with the 60s.
HP ur rite, our boys need to have the kick ass attitude, they shud be more cocky and firing, being too polite and decent doesn\'t help to win. be killers boys don\'t be shy...

yes i agree!
he\'s the best cricket captain in recent times. its really amazing considering he started as a fast bowler and batted number 8!
i have an intersting anecdote on how i met waugh. last year this time i was in sydney, australia. in those days Aussie selectors in their wisdom had decided to \'retire\' waugh saying he was a spent force! but he hit back at them with his performance in local matches and the selectors were forced to eat crow and take him back!
one day i was travelling in the metro train, when in a station, to the crowd\'s delight, waugh got in with his daughter. everybody in the crowd, incl. yrs truely, shook hands with him and congratulated him on his comeback. he was totally warm, down to earth and had no airs of a celebrity.
when i intro\'ed myself as an indian, he seemed very happy and we spent abt minute talking abt tendulkar and the indian team\'s prospects in the coming world cup at south africa. he told me he wished for an India-Australia finals...and his wish came true in south africa!

wah wah waugh...we\'ll surely miss you!
wtf? i no longer care if my posts hurt yr feelings
