Is there future for india? will it ever prosper???

by Hope » Thu May 09, 2002 12:30 am

What do you think, is there a remote chance for india to become a prosperous nation. People like me who came to US few years back saying that they just earn some money and come back are re-thinking. If we cut the crap of patriotism, culture etc, etc and think very objectively..
whats there in india??????????????

Dude, its not just the money, what ever money we would have saved working 20 years in india can be earned here 4-5 years. The problem of money is now almost solved(i know it wont be solved completely for ever, :-)). But look at the system... there is no safety for common man. We can\'t be sure of protecting our life or assets unless you have an association with some political party or goonda in your area. The big names are always beyond the law. Just tell me how many rich and famous people were ever caught by law(just see the case of pratusha, the offenders couldn\'t be reached by law, they are gone). It always the poor and the middle class who get trapped. Believe me there is no law and order in India.
You dont understand what law and order is until you live in countries like US. The Govt says law and order is in control as long as there is no curfew in old city. Thats what we were made to believe about law and order...I am telling you pal.. the system in india sucks..sucks big time... there is not hope...Ya, even i hate to believe that.

Hooo, really? R u that kind? then go live in Afghanistan, go to Gaza of Palestine, go to Ethiopia of Africa. You said it! strong one could live in any damn place. Lets not the bring the discussion to personal level. Its not prudent on your part to evaluate strengths or weakness of person whom you never know. Instead, bring out some valid points to support your argument

By the way... I dont want to remember how many millions of people live there... it scars me further. But would you care to remind me how many people live there happily, how many people are above the poverty line(ok, ok...at least the one defined by the govt.), how many have some clean drinking water, how may people are breathing unpolluted air, how many people are not striving for a square meal on a day, how many people are really people are protected by the law......huh, there are too many how manys to list

If all the intelligent pple like u run away to some other countries, hw do u think india will ever prosper????? India needs young and dynamic youth! Our country is run by pple who shud actually retire and sit in their houses. But becoz of their greed for money, they r still GOIN ON! It is high time young pple like u realise and return to our mother land! OUR MOTHER INDIA AND MAKE IT A BETTER PLACE TO LIVE IN!

Hey Hope, when you see India(for that matter, any third world/developing country) in news or in statistical books, it looks horrible. But when you actually live there, its not that hoepless situation. See, I am also an NRI living in US for the past 3 years. All these years I cared only about job and money. I liked the beautiful roads,911,apartments etc...almost everything. Now I got a little girl, I am seeing the negative side of this rich country ... teenage sex, shootings in schools, serial killers etc. I don\'t say these problems are not there in India. Atleast, kids don\'t take these things casual in India.
Every country has both +ve and -ve sides. Everything depends on your perception.

Is there future for india? will it ever prosper???

Coming to US three years back definitely helped me to understand world in a better way, myself and my friend are in talks with our company to develop a project in India, and we are planning to set-up a company, we saved enough money by having a very simple life style (thanks to my hostel/mom’s saving program), which will help us in setting up company, if I would have been back in India taking care of my family real estate business I would have employed uneducated workers, filled my pockets and would have contributed more to the gap between rich and poor and in turn I would have missed an opportunity to contribute to knowledge economy...so guys earn and learn US methods of success and invest in India to it make a better place to live!

For those who argue whether India is not a better place to live now, let\'s make it more & more better place to live. If we have been worried about the problems that exists in India and decide to settle down in comforts of US here, we would have never got the opportunity which we got!

US mom\'s worry how there kids will turns up, back there mom\'s worries how to save money for education and marriage, problems from personnel perceptions exists every where, a productive comparison is good which helps in progress but comparison at personal level goes no where!

People who came to US 10-20 years back did not have an opportunity or environment to invest their intellectual or material investments in India, for this generation IT is giving path (hope) for people to think going back to India, and do something good for themselves and for the country!
So let’s not miss the opportunity by making unproductive comparisons, recently I read that Israel company developed a fabric router product which is five times less in price and more powerful then what Cisco is trying to make in US, so take them as inspiration instead indulging at personal levels!

hey..PEACE..hold on!!!!! I never said INDIA SUCKS. All that i said is....THE SYSTEM IN INDIA SUCKS. I guess there is vast difference. I love India for various reasons, despite having n number of drawbacks. This again is not just because I am born there or some kind of patriotism.
My frustration about India is towards the unmanageable system that’s developing there very fast. I opened the discussion to find the views from the group with valid argument, not to blame any country blatantly

MOTHER...Thanks for coming out with some valid points. But after saying all that...are you willing to go back to India??? I opening the discussion with same point. Having earned some decent money, knowing the problems at both the countries, are we not still thinking to stay here in US. Speak your heart...if there are problems anywhere and if its just our perception………….Why are we HOLDING BACK?????

Hello Forum...first of all what prompted me to reply to this board message was the fact that the author of this message seemed to have already come to the conclusion of a debate even before it started...by saying the words..\'Is there a remote...?\'...i beg to differ...\'Prosperity\' means different things to different people...now I am not trying to play on the semantics of this word...but its a fact that many a poor soul(as this author) confuse \'prosperity of a nation\'(Adam Smith\'s \'Wealth of Nations\' would be an eye-opener) to \'his/her individual prosperity\'...In my opinion, prosperity of a nation has a direct correlation to the \'Quality of Life\' that a person leads and enjoys...and by that I mean the basic amenities...Clean Water, Food, Shelter and healthcare...now considering that a billion people of this world live in India...and we have managed to sustain with the available resources without a major epidemic outbreak (as the African countries)...I should say that we have shown remarkable sustenance and a commensurate quality of life within the ambit of the available economic/natural resources. India\'s primary healthcare system (incidentally, I am not talking about \'Apollo Hospitals\') is a miracle and should definitely be listed as a world wonder...proof is right here in America...just look around in the American hospitals and see the number of Indian doctors...Having said all these, I want to stress that all these words are not about patriotism/culture which dont mean a thing to me...it is the process of living in a society that amazes me...so if you are really thinking about returning about to India, do it with your own conviction and not from some opinion gathered from some forum...where half the people think that zapping around in a Honda Civic on a freeway and shopping at Kmart is all about prosperity (blatanly misplaced)....oh btw, I too live in this so called utopia - America - but surely know the difference between the stick and a carrot....

Hi Mom,

I agree that +ve and _ves are there in both the countries. But people dont burn other human alive in US. Pregnent womens dont get their woumb cut, the baby thrown into fire and unfortunately if that poor women is still alive she dosent get tourched. But this happens in India and backed by the govt. INDIA SUCKS.
