Muslim discovers tomato Ganesh

Hyderabad, Aug 9: This time Lord Ganesh “manifested” Himself in a vegetable — a look alike tomato.

The unique form was first discovered by Yasmeen, a 40-year-old Muslim woman residing at Hyderguda. When she bought vegetables at Charminar last Thursday, the ‘divine’ tomato caught her attention. She showed it to her Hindu friends and neighbours.

As word spread quickly, scores of devotees started visiting her house to offer puja to Tomato Ganesh. It has been handed over to local Hindus led by Shankerlal Modi. They started performing puja to Tomato Ganesh just as they do in temples. Devotees are visiting Yameen’s flat at Aziz Towers in UTI bank lane, Hyderguda to offer puja.

For Urmila, who lives in the neighbourhood, it’s a matter of faith and she has been offering puja at Yasmeen’s house every day. “Forms of Ganesh are many. This is one way to worship the Lord,” she told Deccan Chronicle. The devotees are excited that Tomato Ganesh is still fresh and they plan immersion after offering puja for two to three days.
