Religious structures on roads

by Ramesh » Sat Jun 28, 2003 11:41 pm

I think our roads are occupied by innumerable religious structures, which obstruct traffic a lot. I think they need to be shifted. Religious structures like the Siddiamber bazar mosque, or the Basheerbagh temple have turned the wide roads into bottlenecks. I think the Govt. needs to take initiative and shift them. All religious structures need to be removed irrespective of religion. All the Hyderabadis need to understand the need and cooperate. More flyovers are needed for the city for which these structures need to be shifted.

I think you are right. The thing is, the people\'s cooperation as well as cooperation from the opposition parties is also needed. The people as a whole need to realize the need for good roads.

First our politicians have to take the bold step. Then only it can be achieved. No person will come forward to take the initiative.

Yeah, thats true. The Masab Tank flyover has been extended by around 100 mts at a cost of 1.5 crores, for the sake of a temple underneath it. The road opposite Nizam college is being occupied by a mosque. The authorities need to act accordingly and widen the roads by shifting such religious structures.

The idea is good - we can do that. Forget about the email - when a religious leader or group of religious people go to the CM and request or demand for leaving the temple/mosque alone - do you think he will be able to show an email to them and say - all these people are having a problem with your religious structure, so I have to shift it? Or will he tell the opposition the same thing? What will work is each of us send the email and then followup with action - go meet the temple management or mosque management and convince them that this is needed. Can any one of us do that?

I think v can form a group and go and contact the MCH office in this regard. I am a native of hyderabad, but working in pune. When I come to hyderabad, the entire group can go and meet the MCH commissioner. Something is needed to be done. After all it is for the betterment of the society. V need to convince the temple and mosque authorities, though its a tedious process.

Hi all,
Seems people are moving towards development. Nice to see that. I have an idea. If all of us send emails to the CM as well as all the MLAs of the city, including those of opposition, I think it can turn out to be a good startup. But this needs to be followed up by all.

But all said and done getting the startup is the most difficult thing. Once its started, it can be continued till all such structures are shifted.

What\'s imp is to pass a legislation to over come this prob. In Muslim countries like Saudi, and in Dubai and other African countries where Muslims are equal or in majority, the govts simply put up a notice for widening the roads. Sometimes they ask close relatives to dig up the graves of their near and dear and shift them to a different place, at a cost sometimes. Say 100 USD for one grave. We lost somewhere in India. With Nehru being a socialist, he could not sell this idea to either to the muslims or to the hindus. We are suffering now with so much traffic on roads in every town and city due to these temples and tombs in the midst of roads.

Yeah,
Enough of socialism. Too much is too bad. If v dont move with the time, v will b left out. After all one of the basic amenities is good road network, without which development may not continue at full pace. Time to start a movement.

What I think is if all the structures belonging to all the communities are shifted simultaneously, then there may not be any problems, as people will realize that it is only for development and not meant to defame or insult any particular community.

Religious structures on roads

by Wahid Mushtaq » Sat Jul 05, 2003 4:29 pm

I really feel disgusted when the road narrows down to less than half; like near the burial grounds at Amberpet and Ameerpet. So also some places of worship like those at Ameerpet x roads, RTC x roads, Siddiamber Bazar, and countless in old city. Donno when these obstructions give way for better roads.

Appealing to MCH will not do any help. What is needed is a common approach between Hindus and Muslims. Do u know who r stopping this? Leaders from these communities in each localities. This problem is like BABRI MUSJID AND RAMA JANMABHUMI.

What you are saying is partially right. But the thing is that even the government is very soft on this issue. It needs to be as hard as in the case of other types of encroachments. Then only can something happen. Some people are happily using these sentiments to occupy lands. We need to take some proactive action. But the people need to be convinced first of all. For that some sort of movement is needed. I think local leaders also need to understand the situation and not to take it in a wrong way, and give way for road.
