Down with Hockey!

I think it\'s time that Hockey made way for Cricket as India\'s National Sport. Doing so might kill the sport, but in my opinion a sport that isn\'t popular with the masses doesn\'t deserve to be the National Sport. Every decade has seen a cricketer who has been an inspiration to the youth in the country. How many heroes do we have in Hockey apart from Dhyan Chand and Dhanraj Pillay?? <br><br>

Some might argue that Cricket has become popular today because of the media frenzy and the sheer amount of money involved in the sport. But things weren\'t always so merry... Cricket has reached such a height due to the hardwork and dedication of many people over the years.

agree totally. i am fully for it. hockey does not deserve to be a national sport anymore. cricket rules. sachin inspires and dictates the mood of the entire country like a thousand dhanrajs combined will never. if cricket attracts so much more than other sports so be it. other sports do not deserve that much then. thank you. your bricks please...

sachin inspires?? what does he inspire u to do?? to play better cricket?? anyways, i think we got more victories in hockey than we have in cricket. to be very honest, i dont watch hockey either. but that doesnt mean it cant be our national sport. i think cricket is already a overhyped game. dont add to it.

dear srinu, hard work, work ethic, confidence, self-belief, humbleness, determination to succeed, dedication for the game, competitive spirit, success at such an young age not getting to the head... these qualities in sachin inspire me. to be a better person.<br><br>
anyway, it is not about sachin.
it is about the game called cricket versus the game called hockey that we should debate over. which deserves to be the national sport. <br><br>
we have won the world cup in 1983, if you remember. now if the number of titles won should be the criteria, then we\'d better make kabaddi or carroms our national game. how long ago did we win an olympic gold in hockey? how long ago did we beat pakistan in hockey? you yourself observed honestly that hockey is not your game, srinu. and how does a game get hyped? why was hockey not hyped inspite of all the titles we won in the past? a game has got to have APPEAL. <br><br>now if a national sport, bird, flower etc. are not to be changed as ZC aptly mused, i have nothing to say because what we say here does not make a difference to anyone.
