Did we really struggle to get our Independence????

by kavitha » Tue Jun 17, 2003 6:07 pm

Did we really struggle to get our independece like America or any other nation???? The answer is \'\'NO\'\' .. with the then face of event after the world war - II, a new world began to emerge ... with so much of blood shed and mass devastation many nations (europe, US, UK, Russia..) realised and respected the freedom and UK liberated many of it colonies and gave freedom.

Eventually India also got freedom.. it was true that freedom fight was going on .... but wud that be effective enough to gain freedom to India if World War dint take place and changed the face of World politics???

I shudder with pain and shame whenever I see such postings. OK, how about asking some nation to occupy us and then lets make it a real bloody struggle this time for freedom and gain independence???? My history isn\'t very good but I do remember the Sepoy Mutiny and Jallianwala Bagh massacre! And I didn\'t know that one has to struggle to gain independence! That\'s most preposterous! Firstly, why should any nation occupy another nation? And why should a nation struggle and sacrifice its people to gain back independence which was rightfully hers originally? BTW, please pass on the standards and specifications as to when a struggle can be really qualified as a struggle and how many people should either die or be killed to pass the test. Seriously, what\'s wrong with us - why are we thinking like this? Why not question ourselves, are we doing justice to all the sacrifices made by our freedom fighters in the past? The question should be Do we deserve the fruits of someone else\'s struggle and sacrifices? Unfortunately, with these sort of mind sets, may be we were better off as slaves!

to be very honest, i agree with kavita to some extent. the british gave us our independence bcos of factors other than JUST our freedom movement. and the factor is NOT that UK realized and respected the importance of freedom.

Frankly, I don\'t get it. So, are we implying here that if the British have not given us the freedom readily served on a silver platter (as suggested by the posting), we would have still remained a British Colony? I don\'t think so. The idea of some nation \"really struggling\" to gain independence sounds so indigestable in this modern era. C\'mon guys, what age are we living in? And the question shouldn\'t be whether we have struggled enough or not but rather whether we have suffered enough or not? We had enough guys, and we are still reeling under them. Aren\'t the British\'s divide and rule policy the root cause for majority of problems (including the communal divide and Kashmir) in present independent India. So, please don\'t sing accolades of the British Raj, even indirectly also!

if u read my post again, u will find i am NOT singing accolades of the british. nor am i saying we didnt struggle enough. how does it matter, we got our independence. all i am saying is.. its not really our independence movement that won us our \"freedom\". the british raj was already crumbling and they had already ravaged our country enough to let it go. i wanted to convey that they gave us our freedom bcos of their own limitations and circumstances... not least the world war II.

...looks like some of us have to get our basics right. Who are they to give us freedom? It\'s akin to this: I kick you out of your apartment, you protest, I fire bullets, kill some of you, at the end I get tired (what ever could be the reasons), and say OK guys, comeover and take over your apartment, I have better things to do in my country and leave. And we discuss about it, what a joke. Hope I made my point :-)

Let me ask a question of those who support Kavitha\'s opinion. Had there been no struggle taking place in India during the world war and everyone was happy with the \'British raj\', would the British still have given us our freedom? Well, I don\'t think so. Though there was an external pressure on the Britishers, it is the internal struggle and agitation that led to our freedom. So, thinking of whether we actually struggled for our freedom is senseless.

Does freedom achievement has a standard to live with? as if a statistical analysis would show you that it holds good and prove you that those standards are met for it to ensue something? The argument is in itself pointless. Had we been quite our country would have been another HongKong which got independence a couple of years back. Our Revolution, Agitation and Sacrifice gave us our freedom.
Your argument is something like setting standards for a top ranked student student and questionning whether he would shoot the same rank had the question paper been much more tougher. Guys plz...make some sence!!
