an extremly simple method of making upma: Ingredients: 1 cup of ravva, 3 cups of water, 1/2 tsp salt, kadipatha/karvepaku, cut grren chillies or 1-2 red chillies, seeds for bagaara/talimpu (mustard seeds 1/4 tsp , methi seeds a pinch, dhanya seeds 1/4 th tsp), chanadal/chnaigapapu and udathdal/minapapu 1 tsp each
METHOD: take a non-stick or thick bottomed utensil, heat ghee, add bagara seeds and let them crackle, add chillies and add kadipatha, chanadal and udath dal let them fry to light brown, add water (rava:water 1:3) and add salt. Once it comes to boil remove the utensil off the stove and begin to add the ravva slowly mixing constantly until u add the entire ravva.Do not panic, just keep mixing until all the ravva gets mixed and then place it on the stove simmering it until all the water evaporates.
Once u master this, u can add whatever u want to during the bagaraa or in the boiling water. various stuff that I get to add are finely cut ginger, cut onions, cut kotmir ( it tastes more kotmir if u add kotmir in bagaraa!), grated carrot, cut beans, cut tomatoes, fried kaaju, cut badam.
My 14 year old son cooks this and makes it tastier each time, sure u too can try this

have fun.
